Sunday AM: RCTY, coffee & blogging

Good Morning, RCTY! It's been a BUSY week here in my studio /slash/ office! I've got 3 projects on the needles, one being a brand new design I worked out while Don was 'treasure-hunting' one day at the lake. On the hooks. . . surprisingly: Nothing! Tatting: put away for a better day/week/month. BobbinLace. . . also lovingly in 'storage', LOL! Spinning: I've got some wonderful rovings just waiting near the wheel. OTHER: my cousin, Pete, was airlifted from the hospital in Iron Mt. MI to Marshfield Hosp. in WI... he was having a hard time breathing; it was discovered that he has/had fluid around his heart. Pete has been battling adrenal cancer, which has spread to his spine and lungs. I've already had two mugs of coffee, both out on the back deck, it's a glorious morning here in central TN... cool, with a slight breeze. I know we'll hit 98F later, so enjoying this respite immensely! To anyone celebrating birthdays and anniversarys, I wish you a wonderful day, and many more to follow. To anyone needing cyber-hugs, I send you armfuls. Anyone needing good vibes, warm thoughts, or prayers, you HAVE them! Have a great day! Hugs, Noreen

It is a wonderful day here too!! I returned from holiday thursday evening, I came to a clean and tidy house, and a glass of white wine, and a proud DH got his "prise". But when I brought to house all my bags and totes and you name it, I had to start all over the day after. Friday evening DH's brother came from Oslo, bringing HIS FIL and FIL's brother. The two latter stayed in a hotel, but my BIL is here. They came to see Ålesund (BIL is born and grown up here, but the two others have never been here.) and to watch a special soccer game yesterday. Of course we did what we could to give them a pleasent stay, and we have the weather on our side! The match was very "entertaining", allthough we lost! (11 000 watchers, not bad for a town with 40 000 inhabitants) Now dinner is nearly ready! AUD ;-))

Good Afternoon All RCTYers ..... spent the morning cleaning house, washing ironing and now listen to a ned CD i bought in Brusseles, while writing to you. and am thinking that i misses my thread partner of this month , have to see who it is ands send the threads ????? I was so good with the waffel thing that all my skirt sink a bit from my midlle .....Just weighted myself , Survived Belgium with all it is delights and didn`t gain a gram !!!!! And i assure you i tasted lots of nice things. I have to pack the squares to be sent to Nora, came back from the photoshop and have to decide which photos to copy and send to my father ... The Photoshop owner said one of the photos was Made for a Poster... In a place called Leefdaal, there is a Church, and according to the story St. Verona , the Daughter of keiser Leopold of Austria , came looking for the grave of her twin Brother. She walked , and while sleeping was told by God where her Brother was buried and that she will be buried there when she dies, She went back to Austria, and when she died her body was carried by oxen , and buried there. The walk of about 6.5 km . leads through woods, near a castle [ with an Onion tower, the pic of which was praised by my shop person] . near a stream, a lake and in fields. At the end you are adviced to drink a certain local Beer , and have a veronica cake. I took a juice , and the baker said he hadn`t any cakes anymore as they were a pest to make .. but the walk was great.... Now i listen to the news , we are making a Historical move, and later will read a bit ,,,, and plan my weaving for next week. mirjam

Good Morning

Here it is a cooler start to our day here in Toronto as it's only 19C which is a ice change from high 20's plus humidity. Currently sitting and waiting for DH to finish up so we can go and have some brunch.

DH is trying to keep me busy and happy so that I don't get too down while thinking about the thumb.

Have a great day.

Good Morning! It's a bit on the overcast side here, but I don't mind... it's been like that the last couple of mornings and then by late afternoon it moves off and the sun and blue sky come out. :o)

I'm sorry about your cousin, Noreen... I will send out good vibes and prayers for him.

I won't be staying on the computer long today as I have a few things that I really want to tackle. Nothing strenuous, I promise... just catch up on the dishes that I have neglected for a couple of days (there are only two of us here, so we don't use many dishes) which are soaking as I type this, sweep the floors (I swear those dust bunnies hide while I sweep and then come out again within an hour afterward), and sit on the sofa sorting through the last of the bags from the computer room so I can finally move on to the boxes. I have gotten rid of so much stuff from the bags, and I am very pleased with myself for doing it... so much less clutter around now. Can't wait until Wednesday (Bluebox Day) so the papers I have bagged up can be put out to be recycled.

Gem "Our house, is a very very very fine house...." *evil grin* Got that song in your head now don't I?

ARGH..... it's in MY head now too!! LOL

Did somebody say coffee? I've got a single-strain Andean roast in hte mill this morning and the espresso shots have been absolutely amazing. Even my husband who despises coffee agreed that this is some good stuff.

Still staring at the neckline of the EZ Fishtrap Aran, but I *must* finish the sweater I'm blasting out right now as I have to mail it this week - like, Tuesday! - or it won't arrive in a timely fashion. I now have two pairs of socks on needles, as well as the sweater, and a hairy mohair Pi shawl which is going to require an additional infusion of yarn before finishing. I'm debating emailing Weaving Southwest for some of their mohair or just trekking to the LYS. It isn't mohair season in Texas so I'm thinking her stock will be disappointing.

Spinning (as always) cotton on the charkha, dog/wool on one big wheel and wool on the other. Scoured and ruined one fleece last week, scoured the other and have started combing it. Still scouring Hershey lockwise and combing when I have enough to make for a decent combing session.

After an early shift at the clinic, I am home now to a quiet house. The guys will be off to a hockey game tonight. DD will be on the computer and will be working on my new afghan that I started yesterday. It in one that you start in the corner and work from the diagonals. I have never done that stitch before. It was a little hard at first, frogged a few times, but now have it down pat. Here is the link. I am using pale green, cream and a verigated greens with cream worksted yarn.

I can't pour you a mug, but I can pull a shot, and make a cappucino, a mocha, a latte...

The Fishtrap is in Knitter's Almanac. Mostly I'm just not happy with the way *I* finished the neckline. I need to pull out the cast-off edge and do something else with it...

Hi Everyone,

Diane, that afghan is lovely, thanks for sharing the website.

It's still very hot and humid here, suppose to get some strong storms later, but don't believe it anymore until I actually see the rain on the patio.

I managed to stitch afghan no. 34 together last night, a nine granny square one with each square 12 rounds. I used some of the yarn that I got from Wooly, thank you Wooly I love the yarn and am working on another one.

Hugs,

Nora

Hi Nora: It's hot and humid here too. Woke up to lots of thick clouds and it sure looked and smelled like it was going to rain. Nothing yet and its 2.00 p.m. Good for you finishing yet another afghan. You are the afghan queen! Marie and the cats

Hi all It's Monday morning now. I just can't get here on Sundays, as it's just too busy on the weekends with DH home.

I've done nothing yet this morning except to check my e-mail. I think I was on the receiving end of a migraine on Friday and I don't think it's gone yet. I feel like I have a hangover. The reason I'm not sure about the migraine is that I sometimes have the "aura" but have never had a headache with it. On Friday I got an upset stomach right after the aura went away, then this ugly headache on the left side of my head. Anyhow, enough of my whining.

DH's parents had a couple of oak trees cut down in their yard, so we drove into the city to haul it away for them (and for us). It will be nice to have oak to burn in the woodstove.

I have been knitting like a mad woman making felted slippers for my daughter and the grandkids. I have a brand new huge tote filled with lovely inexpensive real wool I picked up at Value Village last week, and intend to use most of it for felting projects. I managed to score a bunch of CONES of vintage Lopi for $1.99 each!! How do I know it's Lopi? There's a little sticker on the inside of the cone with the name, colour and lot #. (giggle). If I buy anymore yarn in any quantity, I'm going to have to move out - the yarn is taking over the house!!!

On the needles - a pair of gorgeous beaded sox for me. I'm using the beautiful cotton/wool/nylon yarn I bought in Boulder, and found some green and blue beads for them. I'll post a pic when I've finished them.

It has cooled down quite a bit over this past week, and you know fall is coming when you hear geese honking in the fields. Sigh - I'm just not ready for the end of summer yet.

On Sunday I was out in the yard, weeding and cutting the grass, but today it is raining and it smells like fall. (Sigh.)

Anyway, I thought I would say hi. HI! I haven't posted much this summer, for no particular reason. I've been reading the group though.

I started work on a project on Sunday you might find interesting. A neighbor (who de-wasped my yard last year) has a little toy bear knitted by his grandmother. The bear had an unfortunate encounter with a German Shepherd pup some time ago and I have offered to repair it.

To do so, I ripped out the back, and am using the scraps to darn numerous holes on the head, arms and legs. Darning is challenging because the bear is in seed stitch, and the yarn is fragile. I wet the yarn before use to make it behave. The back will be re-knit using yarn from my stash after I have repaired all of the holes.

There are no seams used in the bear's construction. Joins were done by picking up stitches from previously constructed sections and knitting together with stitches from the row in progress.

Wish me luck. I think my neighbor is a bit anxious about it (and we're talking about a 45 year old man with a family here!) I'm just trying to take my time and be careful. If the darning shows maybe I should call them surgical scars. Dora At the teddy bear hospital
