Did you set off fireworks in your own yard, or go to see the show elsewhere, Shelagh? We parked behind the highschool on the other side of town last night to watch the fireworks that the Fire Department set off from the conservation area in the gully below. It was lovely. Then we came home to discover that some of our neighbors behind us were also setting off fireworks in their back yard. Actually when we drove up the street it looked like it was happening in *our* back yard. They were very odd fireworks too... they made some (ahem) rude noises that sounded like someone had eaten waaaay too many beans. Matthew got out of the van just when one of them went off and said "Man.... say excuse me!!!" ROTFL

Hee hee, all we have to do is turn out the livingroom lights and open the inside front door. We keep the outside aluminum door closed due to a million mosquitoes. A mile over is the local man made beach called (are you ready for this?) Miami Beach. BWAHAHA. They set off fireworks on our May long, as well as Canada Day.

Out where I live we've had a really bad problem with neverending rain for the last couple of weeks, which in turn means high water everywhere. We don't have a river close by, but do have a very large drainage ditch running down one side of our property. On Thursday my DH stayed home from work because the wind was blowing the water across the road and down into the ditch in front of our property. Some places it was so bad that the roads were being washed out by the force of the water. Other places the road crews actually cut the gravel roads to allow the water to flow. Many people have had water back up into their basements and worse, strand their cattle on little "islands". Thousands of acres of crops have been lost. The whole province of Manitoba is inundated with water. I've never seen anything like it.

Well that's nice and cosy... and safe from the mosquitoes too, that's always a plus! ;o)

Wow, that's horrible! :o/ I was glad to read in your other posts that you and your family are okay, but man I feel bad for everyone else having to deal with that. :o/

Hi Shillelagh, I am so sorry for all the flooding. I live in London On and this year we had the hottest June on record. Hot and dry. How can the weather be so different? I don't know which I would hate more the mosquitoes or the flooding. Do you have the West Nile scare out there? Brenda

Hi Shelagh,

The same thing happened to us on Friday, storms rollled in around 3pm and lasted until 11. The local fireworks were cancelled due to it. Same thing too, roads were flooded along with many basements. We got water in ours for the first time since we moved here 12 years ago. Even the weathermen said they had never issued so many thunderstorm warnings for our county as they did then. We went by fields yesterday that the corn was laying over and they were pumping the water out of the rows of other crops, but in the paper today, some farmers say they have lost everything.

The weather out west is crazy this year and 180 degrees different from your area and further east. It all has to do with the jet stream. With the mosquitoes, you can always wear netting and repellent. The flooding is awful. Yes, the West Nile killed a few birds out here last year, but we haven't heard of anything yet this year. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi Brenda

I live in Toronto and sure know about the heat, bad air and humidity.

We are heading out your way the first week of August and am hoping that it's cooler by then.
