Fancy translating the site to english but not the pattern, if they'd put the pattern on the web it would have been done...lol

Well, that seemed to be my problem, too. The calculations were off. I'm working on my most recently attempted translation, and I've made it through the brim. I think my gauge is WAY off (the thing is HUGE), but I'm not going to rip it out until I finish it. I want to see if this pattern at least looks somewhat like the picture.

So far, so good, other than the size. I'll keep everyone updated.

Who KNOWS she should have done a gauge swatch, but never does. Makes it much more interesting.....i.e. "SURPRISE! You've just knit a sweater that will fit both your mother AND your father! At the same time!"

I have found that there is a way of converting pdf files to ordinary web files, which could then (possibly) be translated to English by google. Will try it and let you know the results,

I tried. The pattern has security settings that prevent me from converting it from pdf to word. Perhaps we will have to write to the company for a translation!

Sounds good, Anastasia! Hey, even if it is too big, you could always use it for decoration for Halloween.

Matthew *loves* decorating for Halloween! This year he's doing a "Creepy Crypt" theme with a coffin with a dead body in it (my coffee table done up a bit with stuffed clothes in the shape of a man, and a skeleton head on top of it) inside the foyer. There will be torn gauze-like curtains, and Matthew will be dressed like the old style Undertaker.... if anyone watches wrestling, check out The Undertaker and that is similar to what Matthew will be dressed like. He'll likely put a fake grave on the lawn again, like he did last year, and spiderwebs all around. And he's hoping that his best friend will be coming here this year and dressing up too... possibly as Dracula or something similar. ;o)

As far as I can understand, no, but that's an idea :-) In the pattern they say that it's for a 58 cm head circumference (spelling?) and that the total lenght (from the bottom to the tip) is 55 cm.

Yes, it's the correct spelling.

58 cm would be about 28 inches, which is a few inches (maybe 7 or 8 cm) too big around for my head, but not an unheard of size, just very large. That sounds about right for the hat in the photograph, assuming that the model had a smaller head and they just draped it on her. The brim is very floppy; they had to pin it up (or is that a button sewn on permanently?).

I think I would try to felt it down to size, and let it dry on a bowl the right size for me. Felting might help stiffen the brim a little, too.

Am I right in assuming that it's knitted with bulky yarn?

The pattern requires a big button and toward the end they say something like "fold the brim and attach the button in place".

They use 200 g of Regia 8-ply and the yardage is 100 m / 50 g. I checked a ball of worsted weight (not Regia) I have at home and it says 150 m / 100 g, so I think that the yarn of the pattern is bigger... After all, it needs a bulky yarn, otherwise it couldn't keep its shape, isn't it?

58cm is 22.8 inches, which is a pretty average adult head circumference (There are 2.54cm to 1 inch) The hat in the picture does look rather large though!
