What machine to buy?

I've just stumbled across this news group. I'd like some advice, maybe a suggestion or two. I've an idea for a way to make a bit of $$ using an embroidery machine. All I need to do right now is to be able to embroider an initial or two, maybe a monogram. Eventually I might need to be able to do custom (i.e., logos, etc) work. Of course, I don't have a lot of money to spend. Can anyone give me some guidance on what would be the best machine to buy? Thanks

I love Babylock...Everything is so user friendly. I began with an Espree (embroidery only) and moved up to the Ellageo (combo sewing/emb). I also have the Babylock Imagine serger. You will find very quickly that you want to do more than you think...The Espree is restricted to the 4 x 4 area and it was great for a couple of years but I started to see the larger designs and the scenes, etc and finally couldn't stand it any longer. The Ellageo gets a constant workout.

Thanks for your reply. Would you mind if I asked who the manufacturers are of these machines? I'm familiar with regular sewing machines, but not embroidery machines.

Thanks

Well I know that Babylock and Brother are made by the same company. I have not used Brother so I don't know what the differences are. I don't know who makes them or where they're made. Some of the Wal-Marts carry some of the Brother machines. I use a Babylock dealer. They are very helpful with questions, service, etc.

The ellageo is made by Brother. The difference is that Babylock has about 16 special exclusive stitches and the Brother has user defined stitches in the software. The hardware is exactly the same as far as any user can tell so far.

I have found the Brother to be much cheaper than the Babylock > > Thanks for your reply. Would you mind if I asked who the

We went to several different dealers and had them do a "sample pack" for us so we could compare the designs, in our opinion for a great home user machine get a Babylock, We got the Ellure

iteasily out did the Viking and Singer's that we looked at. Every machine hadfeatures we liked but as for the bang for the buck we got the Ellure.

The quality of the embroidery is not an issue as even the cheapest machines are reported to do excellent quality.

The main issue to consider is ease of use and support.

The Brother/Babylock is the most user freindly I have seen up to a few years ago.
