META- Something I've noticed about this group

Everyone here is so nice! I don't think I've ever read any negative comments about someone's work. That is so unusual for an unmoderated USENET group. As someone with vastly less experience than most posters here, every time I post something I expect to get comments about colors that clash, or a page being too crowded or too empty, or the decorative elements overwhelming the photographs, or something, anything, that I could have done better.

Is it because everyone just genuinely thinks everyone else's stuff is great, or if you don't like it you just don't say anything? For the record, if you ever have any constructive criticism of any of MY projects, don't feel like you need to hold yourself back. I can take it, and I'm here to learn.

When I first joined RCS, I kinda felt the same way you do. Then I realized why. We do tend to accent the positive and tell you what we like about your work. I think we also all believe that there is no "wrong" way to make a page. If it is pleasing to you, then it is a great page. Not all of us scrapbook exactly the same way, and that is also something that makes this a great group. I think that we also all grow by sharing our work. That way we learn new thing from each other.

So if we are "nice" it is because we appreciate the effort, the content and fact that you are sharing with us. Make sense?

Ditto M-C well said... Unless someone says .... Luna let's use your last LO as an example... "I don't like the border it really bothers me what can I do?" Then I'd give my 2 cents, but in that instance you figured it out yourself... the circles were too big. Once I saw it... it looked great. So, I'd say if you want specific help... if there was a LO you thought just wasn't working for you... go ahead and say so. You might get more suggestions that way. Believe me it will still be done in a nice way.

Luna...I see that M-C and Lynne have already answered your post but I thought I might add my twopenneth. I love this group purely because it is full of nice, "genuine" people.....so it is truly like spending time with good friends. I have never personally met any of them but feel that if the time ever came when it was possible, there would be no difficulties or awkwardness. I frequent several forums for craft info and read but "never" post to any of them. I certainly wouldn't share my LO's with them, as many seem to be driven by the ambition to be on design teams, to be published, have to be using the latest and greatest, etc. While that is OK if that is what they need/want....it doesn't suit me or my style of scrapbooking :o) Our nudging and enabling is much more subtely achieved and effective....LOL

Just as has been said, scrapbooking is an individual craft and what is right for your LO's should come from within. So IMV what other RCSers share with us is a small part of their world and it is a huge priviledge. Everyone benefits and we all learn more from that than anything else :o)

If you feel you need/want specific help or advice then ask and people will share their thoughts and experiences and you will end up gaining immensely. I tend to work on the principal that if something offends my eye then I "have" to change it. You did that with your last LO!

People here are generally nice. To many people are quick to criticize and offer how "they would do it" It is refreshing to feel built up for a change instead of knocked down! Barb:o)

Luna, as I learned from the people in this group, YOU are your OWN worst enemy or critic!! I also learned and now am a firm believer that the work you do, is YOUR work, done YOUR way. Look at it this way, if someone does not like it, they do not have to look!! Scrapping is like art, it is in the ee of thecreator and someone will sooner or later criticize.

Most in here and me included like to look at everyone's work and scrap lift ideas in some form or other!!

Good topic and thanks for letting me chime in!!

If there's something you're struggling with, or a layout you're not happy with, then feel free to post 'hey, can you help me with this' or 'What can I do to this LO to make it better', and people will give you suggestions... otherwise we'll assume that you're happy with your pages and just tell you what we like about them. It's not like we're the scrapbook police :) It's your scrapbook, not ours, and it's really up to you to decide what style you like - there are so many different ways to do things and everyone has a different approach.

Ditto here. I really like looking at everyone's work. It's just another way to help each other grow. There's been times where I just can't make a page come together and I post my problem. That is definately a great way to get great ideas!

Ok, I've read all the responses, and I think I've figured it out:

Either A. Most of the people who like to scrap are nice people. or B. Scrapping makes you a nicer person. or C. Both of the above.
