Begining Scraper

One of my girlfriends wants to try scrapbooking. What would you recommend for supplies? She does not know if she wants to continue with the hobby so she doesn't to invest a lot of money. What do you think are "must haves" besides album and paper? Denise

Denise....I would say if cost is an issue that the most important supplies are AF cardstock, a cutting mat, metal ruler and craft knife or a pair of sharp scissors, good acid-free adhesive, a journalling pen. An album and patterned paper can be bought if she enjoys scrapping, since they can be a little more pricey. HTH

Paper Trimmer scissors Journaling pen adhesive

A Creative Memories class would be great. For $10 the consultant explains scrapbooking and you go home with a completed page. I remember I even got a free pair of scissors and they are still my favorite.

Also, November issue of Simple Scrapbooks has a page about a basic took kit.

I would tell her to start with a page or two, maybe if you have some time and are really into scrapbooking and have some supplies you are willing to let her use, then get her to do a page or two to try her hand at it. If she likes it, she can expand from there and she really hasn't put a lot into it. Just my 2 cents.

Besides an album and paper....

  1. Black acid free pen
  2. an acid free convenient adhesive
  3. Look around the house for a pair of scissors

Then scrap together... you can give her pointers and share any cool tools you might have. That's why I have my friends come to my house as I have a lot of tools and they can use them. Eventually, they can't help themselves and become scrapbookers. Mwah hahaha

Something to write on (papers) Something to write WITH (gelpens are good because they're cheap and come in lots of colours - I'd suggest elegant gold/silver and black) Sharp scissors A metal ruler A craft knife (you can use one of those cheap snap-blade knives if you don't want to invest in an exacto knife...) Something to cut on - if you don't want to buy a cutting mat, then you can use a cheap blotter... And glue. Everything else is entirely optional...
