Silberschnitt Oval Cutter

A while back I bought some glass tools on eBay, and in the lot was a Silberschnitt oval cutter.

Does anybody happen to have a set of instructions on how to set the scales to make a desired size oval? The cutter does not have any model number, only "Silberschnitt. Made in Germany".

That's a great score Moon. Always wanted one of those. Ovals are the great mystery of life for me. By the time I do all the calculations, I could have done 10 drawn with string and 2 nails.

I can solve the mystery of ovals for you....quit trying to drive nails into the glass. Success rate there is pretty damn low.

Seriously, it was a surprise to find the oval cutter in the box. I bid on a bunch of other stuff, and the Silberschnitt apparently was a "throw-in" at the last minute. New price from CRL is $470. Nice freebie, eh? Maybe he tossed it in because he couldn't figure it out, either?

Thanks to several people who emailed me privately with the secrets to setting the cutter up. I was able to cut a perfect oval the first time! The secret to running the score is to flip the glass, lay it flat on a table, and press on the back side of the score, then making a relief score from the edge of the glass in to the oval score and breaking out a couple of pieces of the waste.

You just found that out? Do the same with circles. I've been doing that for over 20 years! But then when you, Kim, Brock and myself are all so wonderful, it's no biggie.
