Haven't written in a while ....

Okay, since Stoney, my 24 year old cat died at the start of the month, I've fallen into a complete funk. Even our trip to Florida to see the Cardinals in spring training didn't help, and after much discussion this week, DH and I decided to adopt a cat he saw at the local PetCo. She's grey, much like Stoney was, with blue, blue eyes. I've been trying to get a picture of her, but she is literally slinky around and hiding in the basement. I remembered Stoney did that the first couple of days I had him too, except he hid under the bed. (I also didn't have a basement at the time!) I told her that if she doesn't straighten up (again, literally) she might be named Slinky. We're actually thinking of something along the lines of Stoney, maybe Pebbles?

I'm hoping she can pull me out of this funk and get me back to doing

*something* besides net surfing and other computer time wasting. I've also applied to adopt a dog, so we'll see how that goes. I've got a couple of layouts on my scrap table, but I just don't feel like scrappin', even though I do have the time today.

Ahh Kathy so sorry to hear about Stoney. 24 years that is a really great life for a cat!

You will feel better over time. When my Marie passed in October I was in a complete funk for about 4 weeks. Now I'll get a twinge of sadness every now and then. What I do is remember some of favorite images and antics of Marie and it cheers me right up. Plus I have another dog that won't let me be sad for long she's just so darn cute. I know "Pebbles" (very cute idea) will help pull you through too.

It's always hard dealing with a loss. Everyone deals with things differently. I hope these new additions help you through this. Barb:o)

Kathy, So sorry to hear about Stoney. But it seems like he lived a very long and plentiful kitty life. I'm sure the new kitty will help tremendously and I think Stoney is the cutest, most perfect name :)

Thanks everyone for your kind words. The little gal came out of the basement and gave us some lov-ees (as we call 'em). I also gave her just a little bit of whip cream and that really seemed to draw her out. Matt just shook his head and said "are you starting that already?". But he was grinning from ear to ear when she was rubbing up next to him. Plus, she already used her litter box. YEAH! Off to a good start. Still working on the name thing-I shouldn't have mentioned slinky because the guys think that's pretty funny. Thankfully now that she has been here a couple of hours she is walking more upright. If she'd sit still for a minute, I'd get some pics. Plus I have her adoption papers ... great for a first page in a scrapbook all about her. Wait a minute?? Was that a tinge to scrapbook? hmmmmm

{{{Kathy}}} My sincerest sympathies. I lost my almost-22-year-old Tigger in January. It does get easier with time, tho there always be a hold where they're missing.

Wow, 24? Kudos to you & Stoney for the long relationship. She must've felt very loved & didn't want to leave.

*BIG hugs* I know how you feel, Kathy. I lost my "baby" Bagheera (12 yr old cat) in 2002. It's always hard when you lose a furbaby. What helped me with Bagheera was to start a scrapbook for him. I simply started journaling all those funny/sweet moments and antics I remembered with him. It was a few weeks before I was ready, though. Take your time to grieve first. But starting Bagheera's album was probably one of the best things I did to help me heal. It also sounds like you were ready for another furbaby. Personally, I think Pebbles is a cute name for her. It sounds like once she's settled in she'll be very loving, though. Good luck adopting a dog! I'm glad DH has his bassett, Nikkie. We've only had her 3 weeks, but she's already one of the family and a joy to have!

Thanks Deb. I actually have 3 scrapbooks on Stoney, but not a lot of journaling. One of the things Pebbles is bringing out is all the things that made Stoney, well, Stoney. I'm going to work on a list this weekend (inbetween dog hunting) and get that added to his big scrapbook.

Pebbles is really starting to settle. She took a lot less coaxing today and (surprise to me) actually startled me by jumping up behind me while I was working on my computer. She's still very skittish, but I can see improvement. We don't know any of her background, but she is a complete sweetheart, and, I think, very glad to be part of our family now.

A bassett, huh? A puppy? or an adult? I th> *BIG hugs* I know how you feel, Kathy. I lost my "baby" Bagheera (12 yr old

Get the journaling done as you feel like it. Not only will it add to your LOs but it will help you remember all those good times with Stoney. It's good to hear that Pebbles is getting settled! Next thing you know, she'll have her own favorite spots to curl up on. :-) Nikkie is a 1 yr old bassett, 48 lbs, not a small baby. LOL She knows when she's in trouble, and she'll hang her head down, roll her eyes up at you (making her eyes look even sadder). She just looks so sorry, and it sometimes is hard to scold her because she looks so sorry. LOL
