Finished a small quilt

My eye therapist has been so good to me for the past couple of years -- even driving to my home the night of my eye surgery to make sure I had some glasses I'd be able to see with -- that I decided to make her a small quilt (my favorite kind ). She's been given many different dragons over the years, mostly from the children she treats, so I made her a little dragon quilt. Before I could make it, though, I had to take a machine appliqué class to learn a technique I thought I could actually use, so that finally happened last summer. I finished the quilt today, though I still need to sew on the label.

I machine quilted it, with feathers, pebbles and flowing (sort of) lines

-- I'd hoped those last would indicate motion, but I'm not sure I succeeded. The dragon's eye is a garnet bead, and I put a double row of corded piping next to the binding as an accent.

Pictures are posted here: . I hope you like it, but -- even more important -- I hope my doctor likes it! :)

What an exquisite creation. I enjoy everything about it - was particularly charmed with the bubbles in the quilting as the colors changed. Super! Congratulations, Polly

That is just gorgeous Sandy! What a loving dragon it looks. You are one talented lady! One day in the next life, I hope to machine quilt like that. Cheers Bronnie

Oh my gosh! Sandy - your quilting is beautiful & the dragon is sure to be a hit with your eye doctor!

I made a baby quilt for a doctor that literally saved my life a couple of years ago & she was so touched by it. Last year, I made a music themed quilt for another doctor - that literally saved my life - & every time I see him, he tells me how he has it displayed in his music room & when it's chilly he pulls it around him. It's wonderful to give a quilt to someone that really treasures it. I'm sure your eye doctor will!

Sandy, it's gorgeous. No 'ifs' and 'buts', just plain wonderful. The dragon is friendly and beautiful - but that quilting. Oh my! Your work is just superb. And now you have 'conquered' appliqué >gMy eye therapist has been so good to me for the past couple of years --

Great quilting! Too bad the dragon doesn't have a pair of glasses on -- maybe he had LASIK? ;-P

You're so right about that, Pat -- I never thought I'd feel comfortable doing machine appliqué! And now I've signed up for a hand appliqué class at camp next summer -- we'll see how that goes. I'm a lot more uncomfortable with that than with the machine version. Thanks for your compliment -- it means a lot coming from you. :)

Thanks, Bronnie -- but I drool over your quilts, too, and wish I could do such imaginative things. :)
