A small finish

Carol Doak's online paper piecing group was treated to a BOM over the course of the past year. I finished each block as it came out -- all in

3" squares -- and then couldn't think how to put them together in something a bit different from a 3 x 4 setting. As I was thinking about that last month, the group swelled to 4000 members strong (yup -- that's four *thousand*!), and Carol designed a block to celebrate that, too. I made that one at 6" and it became the center of a square quilt with the BOM blocks. If you'd like to see it, I have a photo at .

Unfortunately, the photo isn't very good. The pale lavender and the yellow I used all look almost white. I may try to redo the photo later.

That looks gorgeous! Also, the colors render perfectly on my monitor, or they look as you describe them. Beautiful!

The picture looks great. I love the colors. I need to get brave and really try paper piecing. I have done 1 or 2 practice things that were mini disasters. I have one of Carol's books.

That is absolutely beautiful, Sandy. I really love it - all my kinds of favourite things included in one little masterpiece. It's definitely and 'I wish I had made that' quilt. Can't see the quilting on my screen, but I can see the pale lavender and yellow. So very pretty. . In message , Sandy writes

Thanks, Roberta. :) Uhhh ... I don't think such a site exists, but perhaps Jeanne can Google it for us? ;) Actually, there are only nine quilt tops finished that I know of, and I don't know how many of those (mine excluded, of course) are now finished quilts. The blocks actually started out to be 12", but I wanted to see what I could do with a smaller size. Some of the other members of the group did them in 6" blocks, and I think one other member made at least a few at 3".

Thanks, Pat! :) I did replace the photo with another that showed the colors a bit better. The quilting isn't anything to brag about; I just don't quite know how I'd have done much with such busy blocks and such tiny pieces, so I just did a sort of curlicue around the set of twelve BOM blocks, a couple of curlicues in the center block, ditch stitching along the very narrow sashings, and a one-sided feather in the border. The top had been 16", but it shrank a bit with the quilting.

I was thinking of you a lot as I was making these little blocks each month, since you're so good at miniatures! It means so much to me that you like it. :)

Thanks, Sherry. :) If you will use Carol's technique, it should work quite nicely for you, if my own experience is any indication. :) I'd tried paper piecing years ago with disastrous results, too, but now I really enjoy it.

Thanks, Marcella. :) I was sort of hoping the quilting didn't really show. ;)
