Help with an idea for an Eagle themed quilt

HI all, Haven't posted in a while, but I need help.....our local little Zoo is doing a fund raiser to bring an eagle or eagles to our zoo, does any one have any ideas for an eagle themed quilt. We could always go with the birds in the air generic type quilt, but I thought maybe someone might have a brainstorm for a an eagle idea.... Thanks, Mauvice in Central WI

Do you have access (maybe through a library) to any stained glass design books? I have seen some designs that feature eagles that would translate well into quilts. If you are interested I can hunt up my old SG books and send you some pics by email.

Hi Mauvice If you would like to go and see my eagle quilt, you are welcome. Try:

that should get you there. It is the third one down on that page. As I see it, the colours are too orange, but you'll get the idea. The eagle fabrics are all that feathery 'stuff' that was around a few years ago.

I got my original eagle picture from Google Images. .

There is a pieced eagle in Margaret Rolfe's "Go Wild with Quilts". The book has a pattern for a pieced eagle surrounded by delectable mountains blocks. The animals in the book are all pieced with templates, but the instructions could be adapted to foundation piecing pretty easily. The book is out of print, but amazon has some used ones available.

Sounds like my eagle quilt made by my mom. I don't know what she used for a pattern/book. I can ask if you're interested Mauvice. It can be found at:

or if that don't work it is in my album of quilts received as gifts album first 2 pictures. It has been around 10+ years since she made it so I'm sure if the book Julia gave isn't it, it will still be out of print.

I bought some eagle themed fabric at Wal-Mart a few years ago to use for backing for a lap quilt for DH. The last time I checked, they still had lots of it. You could make large blocks with the eagles in the center of each block with small borders around each block. This is what we do with various novelty prints for the quilts we make for the soldiers.

Mauvice-

I searched at

and found patterns for eagle quilts- stained glass, paper foundation pieced and applique. Then I hit the jackpot at

they have oodles of fabrics and panels with eagles on them. You could fussy cut the eagles and put them in about any block setting- attic windows, the center of stars in a red, white and blue quilt, satin stitch fused eagles scattered on a log cabin quilt, etc. Good luck!

Thanks Mauvice! When the builders were working up here, they used to wonder how anyone could want to live up here! and the saying for this village is 6 months of winter and six months bad weather >g< So, just like you!

It isn't true, by the way! I bet yours isn't either. . In message , Mauvice in central WI writes
