I'm going to be a great grandmother

We found out yesterday that our DGD and her DH are expecting next year. We're really tickled about that. The only thing about this that is weird is that I really never thought of myself as a great grandmother. I love being a grandmother so being great will be even better. Please join me in praying for an uneventful pregnancy for my sailor granddaughter and her husband. Yep, she's in the Navy. How many of my RCTQ friends are great grandparents? Donna in Bellevue

The really unexpected surprise about becoming a great-grandmother is what it does to your brain. When Eli smiles at me, I go goofy. Absolutely lose my train of thought. Ours is 7 months old. When he's here (or we're there) I have to make a list of what I need to discuss. I can't even remember to read the list. He melts us. It's awful. We love it. Polly

How wonderful - I'm so jealous.

Prayers that everything goes well for them.

Polly, we all know that you melt at the sight of almost any baby - but especially more so when they are related to you.

: ) I am jealous too. DS got married last weekend and dh an dd are making bets on how soon the babies will come along. The other mil told me she has her hands full with grands already so sharing not a problem.

Congratulations Donna. How lucky you are! ENjoy. Taria

Howdy! Awesome. I remember my great-grandmother, Gramma Scholes, one of my favorite people. She loved me. ;-) Best wishes to all of you.

I don't feel old enough to be a great-grandmother but my sons are in their mid 40's so I guess I must be old enough. I'm very excited just to have a DGD and now a little person go to with it. Next summer will be a long time coming. Donna in Bellevue

I know you'll be making the usual special baby stitching - but do remember to make some 'puddle pads'. They're a landing spot to place baby for diaper changing so that the wet doesn't harm wherever baby needs changing And protects baby from whatever happens to be on the changing table. Flannel backed rubber works well and survives constant laundry. Generally, they're just a sort of pillow case with the flannel/rubber innards. Naturally, not being able to quilt them is a pain but, of course, any needle/pin holes allows leaks and defeats the purpose. Polly

Great idea, Polly, Puddle/piddle pads it is. I have some of that rubber/flannel stuff left over from my cat. Do you think the DGD and baby would notice a few stray cat hairs? I'll get new, not to worry. Donna in Bellevue
