Hullo and Welcome Rose, from one of the Brits on the group. You will certainly make some friends here. I don't think I know of anyone near to you in West Yorkshire, but Sarah is in the NE a bit further up than you, not sure how much further; and Elly is a long way further, on the same side - almost at John ' Groats! There are a lot of us further down! Do tell us what kind of quilts you think you might like to make - what books you are reading to get yourself familiar with the craft; whether you have pets who will be interested in the quilting process (we call them QI's = Quilt Inspectors!).

We're not nosey - just interested >g< . In message , rose writes

Welcome, Rose! I don't have any questions I can think of that Pat hasn't already asked. Do tell all! ;)

Hi Rose, I grew up in York but we emigrated to Canada when I was 'just turned 13'! Seems like a lot of years ago now - that anniversary is coming up very soon. You'll find lots of help from the group - just ask! Now, I must turn off the computer to attend to Winston, Mr.Cute Cat, who is demanding his afternoon cuddle which he does by attempting to pull my glasses off my face - don't know where he learned that trick.........jennellh (Jennifer in Ottawa, Canada)

Hi Rose,

Welcome to RCTQ. You will learn a whole lot here--it may not be all about quilting!

Let us know what you are working on--or thinking of making.

We're at all levels here so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Welcome Rose. This is a very friendly group where any questions will be answered by many. I am from sunny Cornwall UK, where we are waiting for a storm promised to be the worst for 20 years ,To think dh is away from this morning and I am here on my own.I hope the hugh pine trees surrounding my house dont object to the gales!! Even worse the lights will go out and no sewing for me!!

Good luck Estelle. I am fearful, too - though we have a lower damage risk than you. I'll be thinking of you later on when it hits. Strangely - my DH was planning a trip over to his family, but now isn't going until it's over - his trip was not one that had to be made at a specific time though. Good luck and take care. Batten down the hatches. . In message , Estelle Gallagher writes

Hang in there dear friends! Let us know when the danger has passed. (I'm going to see if I can find some more info online.)

I haven't been here very long. I've found these to be the most helpful people I've ever met online. I'm sure you'll love this group.

Best of luck to all affected by this storm! I hope the damage is significantly less than projected.

Hi Butterfly,

Thank you for asking - he's doing really well. He had his check up x-ray last month and all the screw holes and the bit where the plate was are filling up nicely with bone. This means that he is now allowed to do all the things an 8 year old boy should (and shouldn't!) be doing. He still has an odd gait when he runs (a slight Trendelenberg(burg) gait), and probably always will do, but it certainly doesn't slow him down. When he walks slowly you can't tell there is/was a problem. His docs reckon that his hip joint will last about 40 years before more surgery is necessary, and by then who knows what they will be able to do. He will still have half-yearly, and then yearly, x-rays to monitor his progress until he is 18. But the worst of the job is done :-)

This is a picture of him 2 1/2 years ago when he was in his cast:

Hiya from windy, rainy Scotland! But it was lovely this morning. Anyway, if you don't like the weather in Scotland..."just wait 20 minutes and it will change" as they say.

Welcome to the group! (Guard your chocolate well).

Hi Estelle

I don't miss those storms, we were nestled on the side of Bodmin Moor, at Pensilva. Miss going to Jo Cowills though :( Has she had any good exhibitions lately? Anyway, baton down the hatches and good luck. Don't forget the candles....
