Let me introduce myself

Wow, thanks to all of you for the warm welcome, great advice on presser feet and machine stippling, and the encouragement to give it a go. And why, may I ask, were a number of you posting in the middle of the night?? : )

I am a 52 year old woman, wife, and mom to a son, 21, college senior, and daughter, 19, college freshman.

I also have a 7 year old golden retriever who is extremely jealous of my sewing machine, or anything else that prevents me from giving him my undivided attention. So, hmmmmmm, is he a QI? Not so much!

I am recently retired after working 30 years in the medical field. The retirement may or may not be permanent, but for now I am enjoying life away from the working world.

Besides quilting, my interests are gardening, cooking, walking, reading, traveling, and chocolate. I make sure I visit Walt Disney World once a year, hence the "wdwnut" part of my email. (Walt Disney World Nut)

I am kind of particular about my quilt projects, I am not of fan of applique, I prefer piecing squares, rectangles and triangles. I recently made a quilt for my daughter to take to college with flying geese and I really enjoyed that.

Here is a link to my Quilt Album on Kodak Gallery. I hope the link works, we'll find out!

Hi Karen,

Welcome to RCTQ. We are a worldwide group - the middle of the night for you is breakfast time for those of us in Europe. The Antipodeans (hi jeanne, Sharon, Bronwyn et al!) keep their own peculiar times too :)

Very nice quilts! Thanks for sharing. I especially like the scrap nine patch that looks like a lrge plaid, and your daughter's college quilt.

Remember we are an international group, so have all manner of different times. Here in the UK it is 10 minutes past 4 in the afternoon and I'm just deciding what to prepare for our evening meal (we eat at 6.00p.m. because our elderly digestions get over excited if we go any later!). We have a friend in California who always telephones us when she is having her midmorning coffee - she always lands here right on dinnertime!

Jeanne in New Zealand is even in another day!.

Hey Karen:

Why are we up late at night...... floods. Sunday was a perfect day here in South Mississippi, BUT 24 hours later the skys opened up and my neighborhood received 9.10 inches of rain by 10 pm last night. And no that decimal point is not in the wrong place.

Can't get out of the neighborhood. All streets and nearby roads are flooded by three creeks. Homes at the entrance of the neighborhood, just two blocks east of me, are under water. How high is the water, well I can see the "top" of the mail boxes.

And I wanted to go shopping for more fabric today. Someday you got the bear by the butt and somedays the bear's got you. (giggle).

Welcome to the group.

Hi Karen, well come to the group, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun. Sorry I missed your first post.

Thank you for sharing your quilt pictures. I particularly like the one you did for your daughter. Fabulous fabric choices too.

I'm Elly and like Sally, in the UK where it is nearly 10 past 5. I'd better be thinking of supper too. Jeanne... well she's probably still in bed just now at 5 oclock tomorrow morning! hee hee.

Some of us just wake up in the middle of the night and when we can't get back to sleep we check our email to see what our friends are doing. :-) I know I have on other groups. But being a WW group their are others that post at "normal" human times. LOL

It is a nice to know..................You are never alone in this quilt world!!!

Hi Karen!

I will taste test if for you and report via E-Mail. No need to thank me! It is my selfless volunteer service to the RCTQ Community.

This place is like a worldwide quilt guild...there was a map of everyone's location at one point IIRC and it was fun to see where everyone hailed from.
