Is it this one?
Sounds rather like the Cenotaph. Have a look at this picture:

Thanks Johanna, but this isn't it either. I tried searching around on the link you provided but didn't see it. Oh well, I'll see if I can find the picture of the postcard and search later. I really appreciate all the help. Barbara whose DH Grandfather was Harry Hocken of England and who had a brother that didn't come on over
There's this one in Southsea/Portsmouth
This one?
As you are finding we have a *lot* of memorials/war monuments over here in the UK.

If you can let us have as much detail as possible on the non-personal wording of the card it would help a lot. It isn't helped by the fact that memorials & monuments get moved around too! Could you take a digital photo or scan of the picture and upload that for us to see?

Lizzy, I really do appreciate all your help in helping me locate this special memorial. I have the post card on a CD that my son made for us. As far as my abilities to send the picture to you, it might as well be on the moon. I know the memorial is in England, and DH Gfather was from around the London area. He came to the US around 1920 and after he married he went back to visit his brother and Uncles.. The memorial looked like something that definitely could NOT be moved. It was made of stone and a HUGE monument like the fountain in Rome, except bigger. I had just wondered if maybe it had been destroyed during the WW11 bombing. I will need to try to get son to open the CD and read the info on the back of the card again. SIL and I read it and wrote it out on a piece of paper, including the post mark. this will take a few weeks because DH just called to let me know we can leave tomorrow morning to go on vacation. I have clothes to wash and need to spend the afternoon packing and getting gas. Yes, I am used to last minutes vacations and welcome them all! Thanks again and I will ping you in a few weeks. You are most welcome. Have a great vacation and we'll try again when you get back.
