OT: Co-op

After the SELLERS requested our Credit Report, Credit Scores, Paystubs, Bank Statements before they would sign our offer WE backed out because they couldn't believe we got a mortgage EVENTHOUGH we provided them with our committment letter from the bank, which upset them since it was dated for August 2008.

Then the SELLERS called on my inlaws line since she was so happy we had a listed telephone number in the white pages -- which we do not as we only have cell phones -- to force us to provide the above. She wouldn't let me finish a sentance so I said the following "do you plan on letting me answer your question or are you going to just ramble on disrespecting me/us?" "no" she responds. I answered her question and then she demanded something stupid and i asked her if she wanted to truly sell her co-op or was this a game. She went on to give me a list of demands and I hung up on her.

I called the listing agent's boss and filed a complaint with the way the seller's agent has been treating everyone.

My mortgage banker called to say the SELLER just called and demanded things. Karen, the banker, said she laughed at her and hung up on her too.

We give up.

I'm done.

Kate I bought my first house in 1981 for $38,000. The interest rates were sky high and the prices of homes were dirt cheap, the house I bought was listed for $48,900 and the other houses in the neighborhood were selling for that just 6 months to a year before. I was lucky that I had a seller who was stuck between 2 mortgages so I played the waiting game. I didn't want to wait at the time but I was still in college and daddy was doing the financing so I didn't have much of a choice. I had offered $36,000 and the owner said he was insulted. Five months later the house was still for sale and they gave me a call. I bought the house and 5 years later sold it for $99,900 and didn't put a penny into it other than paint and carpet.

No one knows what is going to happen with the economy the way it is. House prices are falling again so don't get too upset if a deal falls though because maybe next week or next month a better deal will come along. Your pita sellers might be singing a different tune when it becomes clear to them that mortgages are going to be harder to get approved and they ought to stick with someone who has already been preapproved.

Kate..darn it things just aren't going your way, are they? I don't blame you for being mad..but don't give up!! Good things come to those who wait, and maybe you will find something even BETTER!! The right home just hasn't shown itself yet. Linda

Kate, I agree completely with Cathy and Linda. Whatever you do, don't give up. Be on the lookout for a great deal that you know will serve your purpose for at least 5-10 years or more. Then sit back and wait. Like Scoutlady I've been in the housing market for many years and I've seen high interest rates and low house prices and the reverse and this is one of the best times I've ever seen to buy a house! So hang in there, you will not regret it especially if you look for the gem that makes you happy and that is in either an up and coming neighborhood or one that has been stable for many, many years!

Good Luck! M-C
