Birthday sewing

Well, today, my little preemie turned 5!! I made her a jumper and a wool coat to wear with dresses as well as a princess dress-up dress.

She wouldn't go to sleep last night, so I told her that the birthday fairy wouldn't come unless she went to sleep. She was asleep within

30 minutes. She ended up having a box on her dresser, which she opened before coming down for breakfast - it was the jumper with a turtleneck and tights. She was SO excited!!! Of course, she said that she HAD to wear the coat as well. Some of the teachers at her school acted disgusted with me for my sewing ability...oh well, not my problem. So, my mother got her just before the kids got off the bus and took a while to get settled - Bek helped her while Thomas did his homework.

We had fetuccine al fredo for dinner and then we had a 2 layer cake - top half white, bottom half Devil's food (Mom made, of course), with white frosting, and a pink outlined crown, filled in with purple, pink sugar sprinkles, etc.

When it was present time, she opened a Disney costume of Cinderella from Mother...eventually she got to the princess dress that I made her....and promptly dropped it in my lap to move on to the next present...ah well. I did get a picture of her in it, and will post it sometime this weekend.

The really great thing is that I'm done with her birthday sewing and done with client sewing, so now I can relax and do things for myself...maybe.

No, but ... "disgusted" ? Thought the latest thing was " No Logo" kids. If you sew your won, that's "no brand" isn't it?

Larisa Mazal Tov =3Dcongratulations for your little princess ,,,, As to the teachers not liking your sewing ability ,,, Years ago , my daughter`s school uniform , included a green sweater, the bought sweater was made of acrilic and didn`t warm her thus i knitted her a sweater from pure wool ,,, one teacher told her it was not within the code [ it was i checked !!!!] and said :"if your mother wasn`t too lazy to buy a sweater , she would have to knit that one !!!!" Ps shirt made of acrilyc than were horrible thus i made her shirts from Cotton for summer and Flanel in winter !!!!" mirjam

I am glad Bek had a great birthday; it seems no time since she was born.

With the horrible cold I've had, I didn't finish DS's gifts for his BD today. But I had ordered him a vintage-type speaker for one of his guitar amplifiers and he is so excited over that, he hasn't mentioned the guitar covers. He'll be out of town next week and they will be finished when he returns home. A little late, but he understands.

Remember, Larisa, It takes all kind of people to make the world in which we live, so some we just have to ignore.

Some teachers with whom I worked over the years, did the same thing with students and other teachers. I remember once, some of them were discussing it at lunch; the principal walked in and was wearing a dress I had finished the night before. You know those are the ones that always 'cozy' up to the principal, too. They were oohing and ahhing about the dress till she told them I made it. You could have heard a pin drop. Emily

Emily you do beautiful sewing! And it is so good of you to sew for your children and grandchildren. I haven't done any sewing for my son in a while ( covers for his rifles) so I will get busy this nest week and make his dog a bed and a blanket from an older quilted bedspread. Also I still haven't finished unpacking from our trip to Florida for the Winter. Barbara

Glad you are temporarily caught up on your sewing. I am in Florida now, but still haven't gotten everything unpacked and put away. The SM is almost ready to sew. Still haven't had time to get the serger threaded. Barbara in fl

IMHO, by the age of 5 you can stop calling her "my little preemie". Why hang that tag on a little girl and perpetuate a time which was undoubtedly a trial? Move on; "My little Princess" is much more positive. JPBill

She is just gorgeous. I love the jumper. I think I have that fabric. Maybe I will make one for my 7 yr. old. The coat is gorgeous as well and the princess dress. I bet she is the envy of all her friends. Thanks for the pictures

We usually do call her our little princess, but she's beginning to think she has the right to act privileged, so we've stopped that. I'm not sure if you were a part of this group when she was born or not, but it took a little effort to get the news to the group that she had made her appearance after numerous trips to the hospital, full on pre- term labor.....so I refer to her as my preemie, because that's what she is....she's still tiny, still has some growth/health issues...she will forever be my preemie that refused to cry....not sure what they did to her, but all she let out was the tiny whimper of a newborn kitten (hence the other nickname of kitten that we use). And Preemie is nothing negative, just a statement of fact.

Wow, I can hardly believe it's five years already. I love all the things you make since you do such beautiful work. The princess dress is absolutely terrific. I'm just getting ready to start one for my own little princess (DGD #5, who is 2 1/2). Did you use McCall's 2856? That's the one I have and if it's the same one you used maybe you can give me some advice before I get started, let me know please. Just unmudge my address for a reply,

Tnanks,

DH still refers to DS1 as his "squashed frog" because that's what he says DS1 looked like when he was born. Me, I was just glad he was out!

James was The Cherub for many years, as he looked like those Italian jobs with the wings... Now we refer to him as Hulkus Maximus, or The Giant Mutant Ninja Teenager.

Then and now...

Kate, he was precious baby and a handsome youngster today. Since both of my DSs are over 6-ft, I call them "Daddy Long-Legs" sometimes; especially when I am walking with them, or rather trying to keep up with their stride. Emily

Thank you Emily. He was 14 as of last Wednesday, and is 5'10". Both his cousins (aged 15 and 17) are over six foot, but slender (especially the 15 YO: we keep telling him to put the plug in when he has a shower! ;) ). James has the shoulders of one grandfather than the height of the other. And we still have at least 4 more growing years...

Yes, that's the one that I used....since I have to go through Google, I'm only getting a partial email address for you. You can email me at snipped-for-privacy@yahoo.com and I'll get back to you about the dress. Larisa

Looks like he kept that gorgeous skin, Kate. Do you suppose there's a smile lurking in that Giant Mutant Ninja? Wouldn't want the Parental Units to see it, though. ;-)
