help! - adhesive removal from karate Gi

DS has been given permission to use his uniforms from his previous dojo, provided I remove all insignia and such from them. NOt a big deal...except....some of the patches had adhesive on the backs of them, and I am not sure how to get it off. He has both a black and a white uniform, so it needs to be something that is relatively safe to use...both are cotton-polyester blends. Was thinking about rubbing alcohol, but wasn't sure how that would damage the fabrics.

Should I just toss them in the wash and see how they fair, or should I try to treat them first??

YIKES!!

This is something WAY new to me, but his current uniform needs to be washed, and he needs to have decent backups for when MOm gets behind on the laundry

Larisa, I'm not sure this will work on the specific adhesive, but IIRC, Claire Shaeffer has recommended using denatured alcohol to remove fusible adhesives. As for how that compares to rubbing alcohol, maybe someone who has a better chemistry background than I have can answer to that specific issue.

That was my first thought as well. I always have a large bottle of Goo Gone..... miracle stuff really. And it even smells good!

I always keep a large bottle on hand as well, works wonders to remove glue on many things, even on some fabrics. In fact, the bottle I have was purchased at TSWLTH. DS couldn't believe how easy it removed the glue left on the windshield when he was replacing the safety sticker on the truck. Emily

I once played a computer adventure game in which, along with bottles of "poison cure" and "restore health" was a single bottle of Goo Gone! I never noticed that TSWLTH had it.... of course you never know what you're going to find there either.

Not sure who mentioned it first, but know that more than one person suggested it, so...for the clue about Goo Gone...THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

Wheeeeeeeee!! It worked, it really worked!! And the citrus smell was an added benefit. Just waiting for the new fabric to finish washing so that I can toss the Gi top and cloths back in for another wash...yahoooo!!!!

did I say thank you already??

Larisa, VERY jazzed, as you might imagine :-D

Goo Gone is w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l. One time I was putting cold patch asphalt atop a blacktopped driveway, in the craters caused by repeated driving. Doofy niece went out and walked in it, barefoot. She made it back in and we carried her to a sink. SIL was ready to scrub (Comet, brillo, soap) and I handed over the GG. "Works like a charm!" and no one lost any skin.

Haven't seen my bottle of it in a while???
