My sister and I are taking our Mother on a mystery Birthday trip to Williamsburg, Va (she doesn't know where we're going!) We love to fabric shop - does anyone know of fabric shops in that area?

I live in Williamsburg, and right now, we're pretty limited to a Hancock's at Monticello Shopping Center. There is a decorator store at Rt. 5 and 199, but I've never been there. Our quilt store closed :(

I'm sorry :-( I'm nothing if not thorough :-)
I really wish we had more time. There is an exhibit in NYC at the Met which DD and I would love to see, and several textile museums along our route. But I can't imagine they would appeal to 11 and 17 year old grandchildren.

I can eliminate one of these....Zi's fabrics on Rt. 17 in Yorktown is definitely closed and has been for several years.
Thanks for the heads-up. I just got this list from Google....didn't bother checking to see if they were still in existence...but it answered the general question as to if there were any fabric stores in or near Williamsburg :-)

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. We made it to a couple, but spent more of our time at the Jamestown 400th celebration and antique shopping. My sister lives near Charlotte, NC and has access to a wonderful fabric store there, so isn't as interested as I am (living
80 miles from the nearest Hancocks - nothing else!). Guess I need to make a trip to her house next!I will keep all of this information for future reference!!

That wouldn't happen to be MARY JO's would it?!!! I live in the textile region of Sweden (and thus have plenty of local shops to choose from) and I *still* miss Mary Jo's!

YES! My Mother and I have decided we need to visit my sister at least
2 or 3 times a year just to shop there. I don't think I could afford to live very close - I'm becoming addicted to collecting fabric.I need to take a couple of weeks off from work just to catch up on started projects - I'm on break from grad school, so have no excuse!
