ATTN: Mac Davis, Fred Holder

About 6 months ago I purchased a Nova DVR wood turning lathe. I started my turning experience with a Harbor Freight lathe that cost $119.00, just to see if could turn wood. It was a good starter, but that was about all it was good for. My next move was a Delta 14/42, a big mistake. Then there was a couple Jets, which were OK but not the ultimate tool. A lot of vibration from the belts. The DVR has been the answer to all my wood turning needs, from pens, boxes to large bowls. As my ability as a wood turner has progressed, I wonder if the Teknatool ornamental turner is a good investment. If it is the same quality as the DVR, then i think it should be a good addition to my turning arsenal. Any thoughts from you DVR owners would be appreciated.

Thanks

I don't have one, but I've read reports from those that do and recall very little.

There are two Teknatool owners groups. Once is a private group (you have to be invited to join) the other is hosted at Yahoo,. You might want to check there and see about owners

Personally I would also look at Jon Magill's Ornamental System (it's made from MDF and plastic) . He's done articles on it in several issues of American Woodturner, he also has a web-site that discusses the design

Hello,

I've had a Nova Ornamental Turner for several years. It is a pretty good piece of equipment, but not much of an ornamental turner in the real sense of the word. You can do some pretty nice decorations with it and it has excellent indexing capability. I got it primarily for the threading capability which is in metric threading. It does a nice job making threaded boxes. For good ornamental turning, it has a lot of capabilities lacking. For some indexed decorations, it does a nice job.
