Thanks, and a good New Year to you.

Thanks, and a good New Year to you.
My caliper says .633 Gerald..
For $25, I don't see how you can beat them.. I have 3 that I've been using for a couple of years and like them..

Me too. I simply would not pay $90 for the 5/8" bowl gouge I really wanted at one time. Later, I found these at Penn State and bought one with a 3/8", and I really like them a lot.
And Mac, if you want a whole new experience, put a new handle (if of course, you haven't already!) on the 5/8" gouge. You will think it is a whole new gouge, even better without that wimpy handle.

I must have "standard" hands or something.. they feel fine to me..
Of course, so do my Oland tools made out of bolts with duct tape handles.. lol

I purchased one of the Benjamin 5/8 gouges about 2 months ago. I figured, like many other times, I was purchasing a tool that I would be sorely disappointed with. I've come to use this as my primary tool. It holds a good edge (I wouldn't say excellent). After using this tool, I can't understand why the others cost in the range of $90 plus. I've learned over time that "Name" doesn't always mean quality. Benjamin might be lesser known than some of the finer tool makers, but I won't hesitate to purchase another one of these fine tools.

The expensive ones aren't made in China.
And that makes some kind of difference? Might even be a good thing... We've learned to make crap in the US, too..

Hi Mac, Changing the thread a little. From which supplier did you did you buy your pen drilling vise? I noticed that every supplier had their own version. Thanx and happy new year. Hank
I bought mine from Lee Valley, Hank.. The price was right and I liked the brass bushings..
It does bind a lot so I have to kind of help it sometimes, but that might be because I use it on a horizontal DP instead of a normal vertical setup..

Thanks Mac. I was wondering about the horizontal DP and then I recalled you had a shopsmith.
