Penn State new stuff

Hi, Just looking thru my latest PSI catalog and I'd like to know if anyone has had a chance to see any of their new listings:

  1. New Midi lathe. Looks like a Jet mini clone, but the specs say it's 18 inches between ctrs, and 3/4 HP. If the quality is there, they may have a player. Sale price is 9.95 USD, 4.95 with bed extension for 40" between ctrs. Model name is "Turncrafter Pro". Has any one seen it?
  2. A new mini chuck. Looks like a scaled down Nova (tommy bars), but it may be a Taig with different jaws; .95 with 3 sets of jaws, and it appears from the description that it comes with adapters to fit both 3/4"-16 tpi and
1"-8 tpi spindles. Any sightings?
  1. A pin type moisture meter for .95
  2. "Headstock spindle converters" for .95 for Shop Master to 1"-8 tpi and .95 for 3/4-16 to 1-8, ande vice versa. That's less than a 1/3 of the usual price at the most used suppliers. Looks like a bargain if they run true.

Also, has any one had recent dealings with PSI, and do they seem to have their customer service/ delivery problems straightened out yet?

Well, I just ordered their gouge and parting tool sets and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised. They seem to be holding their edge quite well. If nothing else, they will allow me to perfect my grinds.

As for Customer Service, didn't have to use them, only complaint that I have is it takes them a couple of days to ship the stuff.

I just got the last of an order of about 6 things, took 3 extra weeks for the last item (backordered) to show up. I called the day before it showed up, (after over 2 weeks of wondering), and the woman on the phone was a little rude about it, telling me it just shipped the other day.

How the hell would I know that? - I got no notice of it, so was calling to find out. She acted like I should know, or worse...

I'll avoid them for the most part in the future. Not exactly a horror story, but I would hope for better all the way around. Just my opinion, and I 'm sure others will have better / worse stories...

Remove the nospam from my address to email me!!

As to their customer service, I have to say it is abysmal. I purchased their overarm blade guard for the table saw and found it to be extremely defective (the far end with the gaurd sagged a good 4-6" making it virtually impossible to get the guard to sit flat on the table).

Anyway, I returned the item and had to go through hoops to get an RMA #. I also demanded the shipping charges be refunded and was flatly refused. I asked to speak to a higher-up and was forwarded to some woman that claimed to be an accountant and that their policy regarding shipping charges was non-negotiable. I finally talked to the owner and he agreed to refund the shipping charges. 3 months after I sent the thing back the purchase price was refunded, but not the shipping charges. I called back AGAIN and they said they never told me they would refund the charges at all.

I'll never buy anything from that POS operation again.

You probably should have asked her (the Penn State lady).............that is, "How the Hell should you know that?" I have heard others who were less-than-pleased with Penn's customer service. No personal experience, just heresay.

I bought the moisture meter and the standard parting tool. The parting tool works great and holds it's edge as long as my Sorby. The moisture meter works fine for under $40.00. I compared it to a friends exspensive moisture meter, it was close enough ( within 2% on hardwoods ) for me.

I ordered some tools and they arrived next day, without next day shipping.

I have ordered many things from Penn State & shipping to MN has been very fast. I usually receive my order in 2-3 days.

I had to exchange one item & they handled it very well. They even shipped me the replacement and a return label before I needed to return the item that didn't last as long as I expected all this with no cost to me.

Overall I am very satisfied with Penn State.
