New Orleans & Yarn

Hi All,

I just wanted to pop in and say hello and tell you a little about our trip to New Orleans this past weekend. We had a baby sitter stay with the boys in MS, so as you can imagine, we were really excited to spend some non-kiddie time together.

New Orleans was beautiful and more than a little sad. It would take up too much space to write all about it here, but I'm so glad we went. We had a great time, ate wonderful food, listened to fantastic music and enjoyed the city tremendously. The highlight of the trip (for me) was going to this wonderful little yarn shop in the Quarter called the Quarter Stitch. DH went for a walk while I spent some time with the yarn. We don't have a LYS here, so it was a treat to see and feel wonderful yarns. And of course to buy some as well.

I finally decided on 2 balls of K1C2 Douceur et Soie. I'm thinking a scarf for me. I've never worked with such a fine yarn before, so any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated. I also got 2 hanks of Koigu KPPPM to make myself some socks. I'm a visual gal, so I've included a couple of photos of my goodies:

Hi Hesira,

That yarn is luscious, and I agree - the beads are great!

Delighted you enjoyed yourself! Even more delighted you came and spent money!!!! Our merchants are really, really hurting, what with only one-quarter of the normal population here, there isn't enough business to keep them going for long. So far, JazzFest seems to be doing well and everyone is hoping it bodes well for the future.

Why dincha tell me you were coming? I could have picked you up and taken you to our two other local yarn shops as well! (Yes, we have three of them, all with differng specialities. One is about a mile downriver from the Quarter, the other - five blocks from me - is 1.5 miles upriver from the Quarter).

Olwyn Mary in New Orleans.

Good to hear about this nice trip, Hesira! And WHAT a joy to find a yarn shop like that! I think many people would think its a VERY boaring thing to do: searching for yarn shops, but I always do. When you have very little choise at home, you love to find something "new"!

Beautiful yarn and beads, and beautiful pictures! ... and what a nice garden!! If the pictures are taken this year, you have much more warmth than we have ;-)) AUD ;-)

Aud,

Shopping for yarn is never boring for me! I always look for the yarn shops when I travel. About my garden: Those garden pics are from this year. Yes it's warm here. Unfortunately, it is already getting HOT and will stay that way until about October. I get all excited in the Spring and plant lots of things, but come June, I'm wilting in the heat, just like my plants. It takes work and stamina to keep them alive through the summer. Some make it, some don't. I do love my perennials, because, they kind of take care of themselves. I've tried to find annuals that can take the summer heat here, but, I also plant the things I just love.

Smiles!

We never have heat so long, but it can be long enough to destroy a garden.

But just here where we live, the summer is more chilly and rainy. If we get a nice and warm summer, the garden wil be wonderful, because it is never lack if water :-)

But I go to the South coast from June 25. to Aug. 10. so then the garden must "do itself". And I do like you: Thinking that perennials should be the best, but I ALWAYS fall for annuals, it is very interesting (hm-hm..) to come home in august. I have just planted seeds for annuals, so you see we are much later. I could have started a bit earlier, but not much! Aud ;-)
