3-cut bead question

I have a pattern that calls for 1.8 mm three-cut beads. Everything I can find online has them in either 9/0 or 12/0 sizes. Being your typical American - ignorant of most things metric - I don't know which size to order. Can you help??

It would be great if you could respond by email to snipped-for-privacy@uiuc.edu.

TIA - Kimbo

It is most likely a 9/0.

A size 9/0 is larger than an 11/0. Also, since ought size beads are not generally referred to by their millimeter size, I measured a 9/0 3-cut. While they are not exact in size, the measurement from hole to hole on some of them was indeed 1.8mm.

A 3-cut bead has had the majority of the surface "cut" off. They are thinner than they are tall.

The 2mm stone beads I've used have varied greatly. But the silver ones have been bigger than an 11. Just a smidge bigger than 10. 3mm I can weave into size 8s.

Most of the beads I buy are sized in mm. Everything but seed beads. Including stone and metal (SS, GF). Hole sizes in lampwork is often in mm too.

And the conversion is pretty easy too. 25mm per inch.

The confusing part to me is that 3-cuts *are* seed beads, aren't they? I've never seen seed beads (including 3-cut) described by the mm before!

Actually, most beads are listed in materials lists (see Bead & Button magazine, most beading classes, etc.) in mm. sizes. What you need, Roxan.....

...........is to send me your snail address, so I can send you a size chart. I xeroxed up a bunch of them, and you can certainly have one. Put it up next to your computer monitor, and you'll be set. (That's where mine is, and I use it many times a day.) ~~ Sooz

Some Japanese seed beads are listed as being "1.9mm" rather than 11/0, etc. They are similar in size to the Japanese 11/0 (slightly bigger, if I remember, but not 10/0), and cost more. General Bead carries a few colors. Kaytee "Simplexities" on
