Anyone want to try some charts.

Have just one request. If you try them, let me know how easy the charts are to use, and if there is any changes that would make them better.

When the charts first loaded on my computer the charts were without color. It was easier to read the symbols.Then the color appeared. Barbara

Can you just tell us if you are the designer?

Yes, I am the designer and/or editor. That is how and why I can post them. Both the copyright and ISBN are listed in my personal and company name in Canada.

These are of various books that I have been trying to complete for the last few years, but I have been detoured by medical reasons.

The alphabets are about 1-2% of the total I have on hand. I started editing this book in 2006, I am trying to get at least 200 styles in total. Of this amount I have about 3/4 of the total completed.

The one for the painting, I completed that one last year. Again I was delayed by doctors to finish the book which is to have ten different classical ladies. I have not tried it yet since I have been doing others one, and currently trying to finish a large Japanese Samurai that I was given a few years ago to pass time while staying in the hospital. Personally, I prefer the version I did with fewer colours and stitches, but it has less details.

These are not the first books I have completed, yet they were of things like bar recipes, etc.

It might be helpful if you actually provided people with that information up front instead of posting anonymously and then getting bent out of shape when people misunderstand.

Instead of noting my mistake of missing that notice, you jumped and thought right away that someone had done wrong. I mistakenly thought that a normal person would have seen that I was looking for feedback on work in progress since I had not release the final edition, while forgetting how the newsgroup settings were set different from my email settings.

I don't read the newsgroup everyday, but when I was politely asked to stated if I was the copyright owner I politely replied back the same day to that request.

I would think as a designer you would be happy that people on this newsgroup aren't afraid to stand against copyright infringement. Especially when there are groups out there whose main purpose for existance is to scan and post patterns from books, leaflets, and magazines.

I immidiately understood that you were looking for backfeed on the Work you put in those charts .. mirjam

I have also added more individual pages from the ALPHABET SAMPLERS book [978-0-9730137-9-5], including a test layout page with multiple fonts on one page.

Someone asked for more from the CLASSICAL LADIES book [978-0-9730137-7-1], there are some more but they are not in final book form at this time. I was only planning for 10 projects in the book itself so I have to think about given away most of the book before publishing it. My estate might actual want to make some money on the books, someday......lol.

I might post some charts from other books, such as the LANDSCAPES book [978-0-9730137-8-8] in planning stage.

I think I'm seeing as time goes by why it costs so much to purchase the individual patterns. Not so bad when you have a charting program to help do some of the work, but it is the time cleaning up and laying out the charts that is the pain. It costs about 5-10 mins. of work time to do the convert but it is the final proofing and everything related to make a good looking chart that everyone can read. If the charts were just for myself then just the hand drawn ones for smaller designs, or the general program version would do most of the time but not when others are to actually use the pattern years later. FYI. On average, the alphabets each take about 1-4 hours to do, while the "Lady" took up to 2 months for the final version [b/w version was fast to put online cause it was done already]

Currently the charts are in program files to have them look better than hand drawn. While book format means in a layout that is for the actual book such as the alphabet test layout page. Also with the program I have to make sure that it is doing cross stitch, and not blackwork, knitting, or one of their other type that the program can do.

For those that might want to know. Been doing designs and artwork in some form for over 30 years including almost a decade as an engraver, not the joke type today that the computer does the work. Compared to charts, engraving was at sizes that were at time as small as 1/200th of the original. That means, when I drew on a 8 x 11 page the design would be reduced by 200 times, so if I had 50 lines in 10 cm's it would be the same 50 lines in 1/2 mm. Done needlework, but only moved over to cross stitching in 2005 when I had to start radiation treatment and the ones I did then were the tiny round frame kits. I wanted to try bigger charts, but either they were costly and/or nothing that I liked in the sizes I wanted. At first did my charts by hand completely, but that was time consuming so I found some trial charting programs till I picked my favorite, Easy Cross 2004 from England.

After looking in other threads, I followed a link to a site and seen the same painting used in one of the charts I released. And noticed a few things from the replies, and the uncalled for flames from people who didn't intend to use my efforts or work.

1. There are major differences, such as colour total used and final size of mine and the site's. So one looking at just the subject matter and not the details would not know if it is the same chart. Just because they are the same painting does not automatically mean they are the same final chart project. The painting is public domain so any one could use it as a source material. What each of us can copyright is the charts we made it and related items but not the original painting itself, and even if we own the original we don't own the copyright of the painting. To assume they are without checking was what pissed me off, where I almost decided to not release any more *FREE* items.

1. It makes sense when I got so many thank you's for the charts. After I have seen what this chart company is selling just the charts at [cdn/usa], which I have released for free even though like the chart company we both put in time and effort to produce a final item.

No one asked or offered to compensate when they requested more of the same at the same method of the original release. Any one doing the calculations, using this one as a base.

I was working on finishing a collection with 10 different charts on the same theme of classical ladies from various ages. And it is to be a combined limited edition. Since I am on a medical pension, I am not allowed to make more the $4600 yr. without stopping the pension. That is why I didn't mind letting others having "some" of the patterns I have done, even though it would be nice to have more than what I get now.

1. Something I have noticed since placing the 2 threads, some of same people that gave some negative comments have placed a thread stating that they now can do charts for others. And what sounds like they figure to make some money for their efforts.

In my threads there have been statements that either had one asking for people to go to some pay site; their own or others, directing people away from my thread or to piggyback on what I had done. Rudeness, if you want to tell someone about a site that you make money from then start a new thread with your link. Otherwise you are showing your childish behaviour.

Of everything I have said and giving out for free, there has never been a request for any fee. Nor have I asked for work from any one. The only thing I asked for replies to was what kind of ideas that others had for charts that they wanted that were not available at this time. I never said I was going to use any or all the ideas, only that I wanted a reply from the public.

1. Flamers. I don't care for your kind in any form. If that is all you are here to do, then piss off. I don't care if you don't like my attitude, the newsgroup is not your private property where only you and your friends are allowed to come and play. It is for every one to exchange thoughts and ideas, in a polite manner. When the politeness is not there and directed at me, I can and will reply in same.
