New to your group

Hello! I am new to your group. I am not sure just how to work this group (post messages and get them just yet.) I THINK I am posting a message but I could be wrong..lol..

Anyway, My name is Dora Renee' Wilkerson. I live in good old Marion, Ohio. I am into many different hobbies (from spinning, wool dyeing, loom knitting, candle making, embroidery, horses, and so on..) I have two young children, four horses, 2 English Anogra's, soon a few dairy goats, and one husband (which most of you will know one of them is more then enough...lol.. He really is a sweet man.)

I love loom knitting. I have had a few patterns published in a couple different magazines and booklets. No books of my own yet..lol.. I do enjoy looming tho.

Well I hope to learn a lot from your group.

How do you knit with a loom? Don't believe I have heard of that one yet. Frances

Hello Frances, Oh, yes I love knit with all knits of looms. I have the KK (both long and round) sets, the flower looms, I have small gauge and large gauge looms, Handmade looms, rug looms, and store bought looms. I even have some glove looms that aren't out yet because the woman is trying to get it where no one else can make them..) I love to loom knit. It's easier on my hands then crocheting and knitting with needles. I even have a set of looms that flex for people with hand problems. I think I have a picture of some of my looms on my wall on this page

I have been thinking about macrame here lately. So, now that I knowsomeone on here does it. I have to ask you some questions if I runinto some problems (hope that doesn't happen..) I have been thinking of doing little educational video's on how to loom knit. I just need more time in a day and a second pair of hands.

I'll try this again. I thought I posted a reply but it looks like I didn't.. Sorry, I am new to the google group thing (I am used to yahoo's tho.)

I spin anything I can get my hands on. I have two English angora's that I love spinning. I also spin sheep (I ordered 3 lbs. a while back. I think it was called the Black sheep company or something like that. Good stuff for the price tho.)

Well I am going to test and see if these message goes this time before I write a book and it goes no where.

I know just where Richwood is! There is a farrier store out there. That's about all I can tell you but I know where it is.

I was born up in Sylvania near Toledo but came here about 8 years ago now. I like it here really. Lots of nice people...

Glad to be apart of the group. Thank-you and everyone else for the nice welcome too.

AHHH!! OK, now my mind clicks into gear. Like the knitting knobby I used to use as a kid to make drawstrings for clothing or a tie for a jacket. My mind doesn't work like it used to for some reason.

As for macrame, it is easy once you get the hang of it. It is mostly square knots, larks head knots, and other knots that don't come to mind right now. Feel free to ask away. I will answer if I can. Frances

Please check in often, you will learn a lot from this group. We have some of the most knowledgeable people I have met. I have been knitting for over 25 years. We have a great group!

I am going to try to check in a lot. I am really bad with computers tho. I feel lucky that I keep finding this group to come back to..lol.. Really computers and me just don't get along that well.

I love learning and so far I have the internet to thank for a lot of it. I never would have tryed wool dyeing with kool aid if it wasn't for the net (I love doing that with my kids now.) A matter of a fact we are going to do some felting over soap this weekend if all goes well. I'll be searching the net to learn just how to do it before we try it too.

Thanks for having me,

Frances, I do know the larks knot so that's a start! I did larks knot to a bunch of craft loops and knitted a rug out of it..lol.. It's pretty colorful really. I'd love to make some plant hangers out of extra hay twine (It's just an item I have all year round so I try to find something to do with it all the time.) I made some really cool outdoor rugs with the hay twine too (it grabs the dirt right off your shoes and the holes let the dirt fall under it. Then when it does get dirty it's easy as heck to clean. You just grab a hose and rinse it off... LOVE IT!) I am all thumbs when it comes to learning something new at first tho but I keep at it until I understand it. I am guessing it'll be the same for macrame for me.. It's good to know there are other people out here that does it tho. I love having someone to ask questions to.

Thanks,

Dora Renee' Wilkerson

Donna, I think there is a big sewing/fiber expo coming to the Dayton area real soon (I think at the end of the month.) I have also been there to Lawerence Bishop's place (just to see some horses he has.) WOW, I was impressed by his ranch. I hate to say it when I seen it I was wondering what he did for a living. I thought there is no way this guy is making that kind of money on horses that don't race..... On the way home I seen the church and put two and two together.

I gotta go get some coffee.

Welcome to the group, Dora! FYI, messages can take anywhere from a minute to a couple of hours to show up on the group. It depends on how fast or slow your ISP is going, so don't despair until a couple of hours go by that your message was lost.

Sounds like you have quite a few hobbies! I machine knit, hand knit, crochet, and I'm learning spinning and dyeing.

I've been interested in learning how to use those round looms for a while. I've even seen some straight ones on the Babe spinning wheel site, but I have so many things going on right now that I won't allow myself to take up something else I don't have time for right now.

I have three KMs; a standard size, midgauge, and an old bulky Bond Incredible Sweater Machine or ISM (they now sell a newer model with a different carriage called Ultimate Sweater Machine or USM). If you hang out on the machine knit group (which your looms qualify), you'll find they are very slow, only a couple of posts every month. However, if you have a specific question, someone will answer if they know what you're asking about.

I'll be checking out that link. Thank-you for posting it. I have NEVER been to one of these and have always wanted to go. Now that I know there is one in Ohio I am going!

Lawerence (I maybe spelling the name wrong..lol..Sorry if so.) he is the one right off of 75 South with all the big really nice horse barns (the tops of one of the roof's used to say horses for sale.) He also is the one who is head of the big Church with Jesus outside of it with his hands going up toward the sky. It's a REALLY big one too.

I don't know him all that well. Just looked at some horses years ago at his place. Really pretty place tho. I was amazed at how nice the main barn and office was (so amazed that I didn't really pay much attention to the horses that I rode..lol..) It was neat tho.

I hope they will be selling some English Angora's at the fiber fest. I have been thinking about getting a buck for my doe's.

Great talking with you!

Leah, Hey, my husband bought me that USM but I kept jamming it up. He would get on it and go back and forth and it wouldn't jam. I would do it like twice and then I'd jam it up. I thought maybe I was going to fast but my husband does it faster then I do and he wasn't jamming it up at all. I would love to learn how to run that right too. Too many neat things to learn and not a lot of time. I really wish I would have tryed to learn some of this stuff when I was younger. Not sure why I never tryed. If, I could only go back and tell myself to start learning then... Oh, well... I guess it just keeps me busy now. What do you think of the Bond machine? Have you made a lot with it? Hey, if you ever need any help with looms let me know. I'll help you if I can or I'll find out from one of the ladies I talk with.

Great meeting all you ladies on here!
