BGFNR!

I have been gifted with beach glass, real honest to goodness glass tumbled by the ocean. This glass is so cool, and just think, mother nature did it!

Sooz, you are a doll!! Thank you so much for being my first and for sending me these fine specimens. I now know the difference.:=)) Even the box is cool, decorated with monkeys.

{{{HUGS}}}

I just realized something....I'm no longer a BNFR virgin! LOL Dr. Sooz is the one who did it. LOL

Ohhh, congratulations Margie!

I remember seeing my first beach glass. I was in Nome, Alaska and was so excited to walk along the beach and see these wonderful little jewels.

I have quite a bit of it now but all I have is from that same beach. That's one nice thing about Alaska, people often put their garbage on the ice in the winter so there is *lots* of raw material for beach glass. The other very cool thing is that you can pan for gold on the beach. Nome used to have a huge gold mining industry but now it is mostly just people using sluices on the beach. I bought a pan though and actually found some gold!

It was pretty neat sitting practically along on the beach and panning for gold well into the evening. I got a heck of an eyeball sunburn though. *lol* I guess I forgot to blink enough and with the sun shining off the water it was pretty bright.

Are you a "neighbor"? I live in Fairbanks.

I always get a kick from people recommending hats. The sun never seems to be overhead here. It's just above the horizon in winter. And in summer too, it's hanging around the horizon all night. My husband has permanently sunburned eyes. Be careful.

Um, well, I'm close than some. *lol* I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I was just up there doing some work with the Reindeer Research Project with the University of Alaska. It was a very neat experience and we got to see quite a bit of the Seward Peninsula including a trip from Teller and a visit to the Hot Springs in, oh dang, I forget the name (NE of Nome an hour or so).

And because of an airline strike on the way home I actually got to fly to and land in Kotzebue.

It was an excellent trip and if it weren't for my horses I'd love to live up that way. As it is I'd love to spend some more time in the Nome area. I even got to see Wyatt Earp's bar!

One of the cooler things that happened is trading a Canadian $1 coin, the "Loonie", for a Walrus ivory ring with a Native fellow in the bar.

Now I want to go back. *lol*

I love sea glass. I was born in florida, and used to have quite a collection of it. sadly, I've no idea where any of it is now, which is a shame since I had some really lovely pieces. I guess whenever I visit my relatives there now, I'll have to work on rebuilding my collection.

Amber, maybe you'll uncover it somewhere in the attic or basement one of these days. And rebuilding it sounds like fun -- I have to get back to the beach too! The seas here (northern CA) are much rougher, and beachcombing turns up far less stuff....but it's still great fun and very soothing to troll the sand. ~~ Sooz
