Yes, it did. Hearing the step, seeing the steps gives me much greater understanding of the processes. I knew they didnt come at the wave of a magic wand... but often you and the other lampers would speak of encasing.. or dots .. and I saw the end result without the inbetween steps. My personal arch-nemesis in glass is Alabastro Dark Periwinkle. You would cry if you saw this color, because it's so gorgous... and it shatters into frit the second I look at the flame.

Kandice, you should try EDP: just think of it as the pastel form of Rubino, and you'll be fine. You might want to avoid using in in beads with raised decoration unless you find you like the devit, though.

That's what opal yellow does to me...oh but I love it.
Ouch only if it lands in your lap or the fold of your elbow and you can't move too much because you don't want to lose the bead.

I think the best way to know how a lampworker does his or her art is to see them make a bead/marble/sculpture.
Oh, I know you didn't Carla. I didn't mean to imply that anyone here did that on purpose. I am just trying to get people here to see all points of view, that all. :)
I have it sitting out to try. :) It's calling to me. I keep giving it The Look. I work with rubino so well, maybe, just maybe, EDP won't give me as much trouble as I have seen it give other people. For those who don't know - EDP is Evil Devitrifying Purple - a nickname for Moretti Opaque Purple 254. A purple that is more orchid pink in color, and which becomes coated in a chalky whitish, uh, stuff after the bead cools even a little bit. It's such a gorgeous color before it devitrifies. It's purely evil glass. :)

definitely! the only ones i've been able to watch so far are Nicole and Lynda, but a LOT of things started to make sense when i did.

Mmmmmmmm! I love 254! I'm one of those who happens to like the devit But it can't just be random. I "apply" the devit in much the same way one would strike a color or reduce Iris Gold reduction glass.
Two examples:
EDP has a lot of fun uses....mainly ways to exploit it's tendencies. It just WANTS to be etched! Working it with silvered ivory stringer then etching is beautiful. So is applying surface decorations then only etching the EDP. It also looks great encased with ink blue or dark lavender blue transparent. I use both for encased stringers, too.

Ooh, I LOVE devit! I think it looks neat! You're absolutely right, though, it is a gorgeous color when not devitrified. But it can look pretty amazing when it is... just a different sort of amazing! :)

Diana - someone just posted this on WC - I had seen it before, but boy has it ever grown! This has so much really good info, and lots of pics - it's just amazing. This should help with your questions:
Yes; the devit can be just yummy in the right designs, such as your "Largo" series, and also on some organics. I find I can get the devit consistent and even by letting the bead cools lightly, and then just "kissing" it with the flame. You can see it bloom across the bead.

That's so wierd! I have some big fattie Opal Yellow rods, and they are a bit shocky but no worse than EDP or Tequila Sunrise Coral.

The rod shatters, not the bead. You get all sizes of shattered glass everywhere that can stick to you. I always wear cotton clothing. The bead will crack if you don't keep it warm enough.
It's one of my favorite colors too. I use it all the time.
