Bracelets tend to be between 6 and 7 1/2 inches. I would guess 6 1/2 would be good, but I hope someone who makes more bracelets that I do will reply.

But let me strongly suggest that you do not use a barrel clasp. I like them personally, because they are less conspicuous, but some people find they come undone too easily. However, I would suggest using a toggle clasp (with a long enough bar) not only for security, but because it's an easy clasp to do one handed.

Welcome to RCB Sheri! From the different sources I read, a general rule of thumb seems to be 1" longer than the measured length of the wrist. Personally, that's a little too long for me. I prefer 1/2" - 3/4" depending on how the bead sequence works out. Have fun and congratulations to your daughter on her first Mother's Day!

Thanks for the suggestion..... I asked my son..(who my daughter is staying with right now... and he said she would prefer the barrel.... I'm not fond of it myself.... but I know she's got some jewelry with the barrel and she likes them)... I've been playing with the design.. and now I've got all their names on it.... with their birthstones..... and a few spacers beads and I'm up to 6 inches without the clasp.. ..

I'll stay unlurking.....as much as I can... I do more cross stitching than jewelry making.. (I personally don't wear much jewelry... ).... but now that I'm making this bracelet for her... I've got ideas running thru my head for mine.. my only problem is finding my son's birthstone... he was born in June... and I really like the alexandrite.. but I just can't find any beads

I"m going to make sure she has a better first mother's day than I did..... my husband (now my ex) didn't get me anything.. said that our daughter was too young to take shopping... she was almost 3 months old... I got one card... from my sister in law! and that pretty much set the tone for the rest of our married life.... either the kids were too young to take.. or they didn't remind him.. and when they got older.. then they didn't have the money....

I'm going to be doing that real soon on a project I'm working on now.... it's a Thomas Kindcaid picture called Garden of Promise... and instead of french knots for the flowers I'm doing seed beads. I've done beads in the past... on a wedding gift that I did where the brides gown was trimmed in crystal beads

and now he makes sure that he doesn't forget his new wife on Mother's day.... (but does he remind the kids to call me... they were leaving in Germany the past 4 years... or get me anything.. nope.... ) but my son in law has assured me that my daughter will not forget me on mother's day.... cause he won't forget his mom.. so there is no way he would forget me either!

I just made my mom a birthstone bracelet for Mother's Day. It has MOM in the middle, then my birthstone, my sister's birthstone, and my neice's birthstone, with little heart spacers between each bead set. I'll have to upload it to my website.

You don't have to make jewelry to hang around here. I've been doing sculpture for months, and there are beadmakers here who never make jewelry. Besides, it's easy to add beads to cross stitch. You just have to like beads and have a sense of humor.

I did look for real Alexandrite, the gem, and found one lovely example. For $3,500 for a half-carat stone. If that's in your budget, I think that there are some lampworkers around here that would like to meet you. :-)
