I found what I thought was a really good price on bracelet buddies on line, not knowing they'd have to be decorated and assembled. They're alligator clips on rods so you can hold one end of the bracelet with the clip, and fasten it with your other hand.

Anyway, since I've been playing around with clay lately, this is what I came up with -

I'll probably go back to using lobster claw clasps now for myself; that's always been the kind of clasp I prefer, but gave up because of the difficulty of closing them one-handed. Cheers, Carla

Those are nice.... I got mine from Avon several years ago.. it's "gold" with black trim.... I don't wear a lot of bracelets.... but it is handy when I'm alone...

The times that toggles don't work are when the toggle has a shorter bar so the clasp looks tidier.

I don't particularly like the look of them, but you just can't beat them for function.

I think they are starting to make better looking toggles... I'm going to look into getting one for the bracelet I'm making for myself....

From what my kids tell me, I can't stand my ex's new wife. She sounds like she has all my faults that I grew out of, which she has more fully developed -- especially co-dependence, and childish (not child-like, at 50) fantasy.

My ex's wife and I aren't alike... but we aren't real different.. does that make sense??? She's more willing to "bow down" to my ex ... sort of like I was till I got some counseling (at my ex's urging) and became independent.. he decided he didn't like the new me.. and wanted me to go back to the way I was... well THAT didn't happen!!

My ex got smart the second time he married. He's now married to a woman who isn't as intelligent, or smart, either, as his first wife -- so now he's not constantly outclassed. ~~ Sooz

Besides, he is privileged enough to have Merc once in a while, and Merc is the epitome of class. Mercury seems to be regal, even, and your former husband would do well to emulate him.

I feel bad for the new wife and especially, the kid. Imagine how that poor kid is going to look at the world, considering what he has for a role model.

lol... I didn't think of it that way.. she's pretty smart in a lot of ways... she's a major in the air force.... but once she puts on civilian clothes........

Sooz, you could outclass Judith Martin. So it comes as no surprise that you outclassed Mr Epitome of Meanand Uncaring. (I'm still letting go of my anger at him for not helping you when you picked up Merc)

Haw haw haw! Well, I have to agree with you there.

I can't argue with this either. And Merc is way, way smarter than he is.

I feel bad for the kid -- but the wife is worse than my Ex. She's paranoid and filled with rage, and has rather less rational thought than the Evil Ex does! Imagine. :-O ~The horror~ ~~ Sooz

WOW, doll! :-o (thank you)

Yeah, that shocked even me, even now that I've had time to get accustomed to it (I can't). I thought of a way to get Merc fulltime, but then -- toward the end of Merc's stay (he went to his Other Home yesterday) -- I realized how hard it is on me to take proper care of the big (sweet) fuzzy guy.

The irony is that the Ex made my fibro as bad as it is now, and my fibro is why I can't realistically take Merc away from the bastard for good. I know there's a lesson here. I'm striving to learn it. ~~ Sooz

Thank you -- oh, that is *so* sweet. >sniffle< I'm doing a bit better today (slept all day yesterday) -- but it feels like a *lot* better. Any improvement feels so dramatic, you know? It really feels good. I was even able to sit at the computer today and buy a few (REALLYREALLY-needed) items to wear on our upcoming journey. (I live in the SF Bay Area, we don't really have summer....so I don't really have hot weather clothes.) It was one of those minor triumphs that feels like I just built a ship! Where's the bottle of champagne to crack on the prow? :-D ~~ Sooz

My father was born in Oakland but moved to the Blue Hills in Vacaville when he was 8 or 10 where his parents grew fruit. That would have been 1915 or earlier. That farm is still being worked, and is still pretty remote. Though it's only about 10 miles, it was a two day trip to bring the fruit to town with the horse cart, sell the fruit and get home again.

You can still get some amazing produce around there...We loved going to the farmers' markets around the area. And when the orchards are ripe with fruit...gggaaaa! amazing to drive around the countryside!
