AD - An act of defiance

Even though I haven't listed on eBay for a long time, I decided that maybe I could make a statement against all the misrepresented mass-produced lampwork by posting in the art category instead, under "Self-Representing Artists".

I'm not posting in two categories, this is the ONLY category I will be posting in. I've started my auctions a bit lower than usual in the hope that it will help encourage people to keep looking there, and I would love it if anyone else felt like jumping into that category as well... we do know from experience that eBay creates new categories based almost entirely on people making things inconvenient for them, and also that it's getting harder and harder to weed through the thousands of misrepresented auctions in the already-poorly-named "Lampwork - US" category!

So what do you say, my beady brethren? Good idea, or no?

Interesting idea Kalera and I admire your attempt to try and initiate changes for the better. I am going to watch and see how you do. Of course I know this wouldn't happen overnight. I've never looked in that section before, it seems to be predominated with paintings, but I saw other things as well. I think it is definitely worth a shot, personally I'm not ready to try it just yet, but who knows, maybe in future.

Kalera!!! I will be posting auctions this week and I will do the same

- this is a fantastic idea, and the fact is that we belong in the SRA area and are not misrepresenting anything, unlike the AH's of the world.

Thank you Denise

I've given up listing on ebay. This time for good. I'll be working on getting my site up this weekend, and so far I've been selling so much to my co-workers that ebay isn't necessary anymore. Especially as they've raised fees again, and it's so overloaded with junk jewelry that's in the wrong category.

I hope you guys can get ebay to change things for the better, though..I still buy loads of lampwork and other beading supplies on there, and I'd love to be able to browse lampwork without all of the crappy, mass produced stuff popping up as well.

I didn't even know about that category at all. I am really new at selling on ebay, and just didn't even realize some of the things you said. It is important expecially when you are just starting out, to have others who know what is going on:) I might try it. Most people don't know about me anyway, so I don't have much to lose!
