This is a beautiful handmade necklace created by me, HarryB41. A lot of time, thought and work has went into this simple, but elegant piece. I know this item will be a very welcomed addition to anyone who loves nature andthe outdoors. The Goddess will bring you comfort in times of need and the Paua will draw on the forces needed to relax. A beautiful item that can be added to your collections. Don't miss your chance at this one of a kind handmade necklace!

Hi Harry,

I'm having trouble seeing the piece as it's on a black background..

Waaah, I wanna see it!!

Wonderful Harry! One word of advice - scan that necklace on a white background, so we all can see its beauty more clearly! Also, the necklace is gorgeous, so please don't take it to heart if it doesn't sell the first time around. The jewlery categories are hard to sell in - there is a TON of competition right now, and not as many buyers.

I scan the necklace again using a white background and added them to my Ebay listing.

Harry, I checked but it just says hand carved bone.. What sort of bone?

< The best I can tell it is beef bone from the shin or shank of the animal.

Much better. I love it now that I can see the whole thing and the colors in the beads. I love the closure

< Thank you so much again! :) I don't know...I just love Paua against dark colors. It really shows the Paua much better I think... but I am color blind. lol

What sort of whale bone carvings do you have? Whalebone is so porous. I have just a few things of whale bone, and more of walrus and mastadon ivory.

< You are very welcome. I have seen MANY of the bone carvings they do there and I love almost all of them. I was so inspired by them I was thinking of trying bone carving myself and even talked with a local butcher for the bone and he was going to save me some, but we could never get together on a pick-up date or time. So I guess it's fate that is keeping me from trying. lol One of those things I am not meant to do right now I guess.

Whale bone is very popular with the Maori people here. They carve necklaces, tiki, earrings, sculptures, traditional Maori carvings. But it is getting more difficult to come by as I understand.. Whales are a precious ocean resource and the Whaling moratorium forbids killing them, so the only whale bone these days comes from dead whales on the beaches and the like..

Most of the carvings are amazing in their artform. Really have to be seen to be believed.

The only source of whale bones is not from dying or dead whales. In Alaska, many of the Native peoples (either Eskimo or Native Americans) are still allowed to hunt whales as they always have.

Oh, you mistook me... I know this.. but in NZ we have a whaling moratorium which forbids whaling. I know it is different in other parts of the world - especially where they rely on whale meat/blubber for food etc. The Maori people here find it very difficult to get whale bone and only do so when there is a stranding on a beach. A number of countries belong to this moratorium because of the increasing rareness of whales.
