All I want for Christmas is

Dec 11, 2003 42 Replies

What's on your wish list in the way of beading or beadmaking or jewelry equipment this year? Other than beads, beads, more beads, and even more beads, of course.

All I want for Christmas is a small cheap tumbler with 2 pounds of stainless steel shot so I can get my wirewrapped pieces looking sparkly and shiny.

A torch, a kiln, glass... :-) And a place to set it all up in.

Oh, here's my list:

Lindstrom flush cutters Dremel( & cup burr) Magazine subscriptions: WAJ, BeadStyle, Bead & Button, and Beadwork KylaNicole.com (my future jewelry site ;o): need $10 to register it Gift certs for FMG (I went through the whole catalog, added up everything I wanted, and it came to $360.80! Not too bad, if I do say so myself;o)

Those are all on the "hard copy" Xmas list; the one that all my family member s have. Other things that would be nice, but are too much hassle for the non-beaders doing long-distance gift buying, are:

tuition for Eni Oken's online jewelry class a worktable & chair (I currently sit in the middle of the living room floor to bead) lots of those hardware-store cabinets with all the clear plastic dividable drawers a metal ring mandrel a PROFESSIONAL grade wire jig an earwire jig (the little wooden kind) a steel block anvil a rawhide hammer drill bits for drilling metal a butane torch, for occasional soldering

HA! Is that enough for ya? ;o) LOL

Hmmmm.... Let's see....

A new furnace. LOL!

Ok. Here's the REAL list:

A "Little Torch" PMC3 or Art Clay Silver (especially the "paper" type) A complete set of Effetre Filigrana A truckload of 18 gauge sterling jumprings with the right ID for Byzantine A new breaker box in the basement One bead from every lampworker I know

28 gauge fine silver wire (or 30) Someone to paint my basement floor Kiln shelf for my F-120 Haike brush A set of Paradise Paints Loren Stump class

A holiday with no pain. More time to spend with my family and friends.

Beads and wire to make more ornament hangers Lengths of gold and silver cable chain Swarovski crystals..lots and lots of them an endless supply of lampwork beads several pounds of assorted semi precious stone chip beads (they're my favourite, you know...lol)

Time to bead and more than 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

What I want for Christmas -- 1. TIME for me - to create, study, figure out new glass techniques. 2. new breaking pliers from CR Loo 3. a bead release which "releases" without breaking dichro pendants. Think I have to wait until Spring for that. 4. more sales 5. more computer knowledge so I can install my scanner & printer on this computer and maybe actually get my website up and going. 6. peace of mind (LOL) 7. peace in the world 8. more help around here getting rid of clutter, or at least if one of the boyz (21 & 50) would pick up stuff rather than throwing it on the floor. . 9. someone to cheer me up when I'm sad and depressed rather than me supporting everyone else. Sigh.

  1. that my dh would return to being the fun loving guy he used to be rather than the party pooper who makes me feel guilty if I ocassionally want us to go out. I really wish there was a Santa Claus. Patti

Has your DH had a complete medical checkup recently? Low-grade depression can cause this kind of personality change, and it doesn't always happen fast.

I hope you get at least some of what's on your list! Sarajane

Me, too. My bead room looks like a bead blizzard hit ...

Elise

May you get it all ... or at the very least your first and last wishes.

(((( Hugs ))))

Celine, Thanks for your concern. He has had a medical checkup. It's been a gradual thing, mostly because of financial concerns now that our son is in college. Everyone, thanks for letting me "vent." Made me feel a lot better. Patti

Then I suggest that (if you're not already doing so) you take an evening for yourself once a month or so and just go somewhere that you want to go. Leave him to mope around the house if that's what he wants to do, but pay attention to your *own* mental health. I know it would be more fun with him; however, if you let him tyrannize you into never doing anything for fun, *you* will be the one who ends up with depression.

Celine

May you have the first in abundance, and the second as well ...

Elise

What's ironic is that by the time they leave home you can no longer manage to sleep more than 3 hours without interruption.

He will sleep someday, I promise. When he's 13 or so.

Elise

What!?! Your son isn't sleeping through the night yet? You poor soul! My DS slept 6 hours at 6 weeks gradually increasing till about 3 - 3 1/2 months then started waking up for night feeds again, started him on solids at 4 months and he started sleeping through the night again :-). He now will sleep between 8 - 11 hours, at night.
