Another Ad: A couple of ONE CENT auctions

Now, you guys know I'm pretty even tempered and pretty easy to get along with. Right? Well someone emailed me today. A lampwork artist. The content of the email was a tirade/rant about my web and auction prices being low and how I'm wrecking the industry and blah blah blah.

Well, I don't think they are low. I don't think they are high. I think they're FINE because they are MY auctions and *I* set the prices exactly where *I* wanted to.

In the spirit of Free Trade, submit to you two Tink Auctions, both with a starting price of ONE CENT. So there. Hmmph. Try to tell ME how to price my work will ya...

I didn't have much left that I could put up as my protest auctions, so I went with the only two bits of inventory I had left. LOL!

Seriously though, I really don't think my prices are low. Her "logic" regarding my prices had to do with my posting some things on my site yesterday and having them all marked sold today. Apparently, I should ask enough for my work that no one buys it? And I won't go into the illogical logic that was applied to my auctions. Hey, I don't even start my auctions at 99 cents. I start them at my wholesale price.

Well, until tonight, that is. LOL!

This won't be a habit (the one cent auctions). It's just a way for me to exercise my right to price my work however I want, whenever I want, wherever I want.

And anyone who doesn't like it can kiss my Barracuda.

Tink out.

It's a shame that we have so many folks who think they should police the lampworking community. This is just one instance.

In support of your protest I had to bid. Good luck and YOU GO GIRL!

Me too. I know it's quality and I love being able to bid a penny. It tickles my fancy. lol

Care to post a URL to one of her auctions, so we can see what *she* thinks prices should be?

I think that has more to do with the fact that you have a mailing list and a fan club. Frequently, by the time I see the post saying that you have new stuff on your page, half or more of it is already sold -- and I'm reasonably sure that's from the mailing list notifications. Now, maybe as you get more of a reputation as a glass artist, you might consider ramping up your starting prices a bit... OTOH, I don't see anything wrong with giving the folks on your mailing list a chance for a price break, either.

Which is perfectly reasonable IMO. If they're going for what she considers a "low price", that *reflects* the market for your work -- if there were more bidding wars, your ending prices would be higher!

ROFL!!!!!

What I don't get is the absolute GALL of someone writing to another artist to rant like that. Even if I thought that way (which I don't) I would never be so obnoxious and rude as to try to tell someone else what to do. Geez! May THEIR auctions never go above their starting price. Sheesh, da noive!

Tsk! Tsk! Now as tempting as this is, it's not my style. I'm not above taunting you with it though. LOL! Prairieson knows, but only because he lives with me and had to endure my reaction in person. I don't take kindly to this kind of stuff. I'm not someone who can be easily scared off by this kind of confrontation. Yes, I've only been at this for a couple of years, but I've made my living as a working artist for about

20 years. I've seen it all.

I am also not above making said artist squirm by saying it is someone everyone here "knows" or knows of. *waving in case she's reading this*

And y'all can stop emailing me, because I am NOT saying who it is. Period. There's an evil little part of me that would love to, but common sense and a level head dictate otherwise.

I respect your stance on this Tink, so I'm NOT arguing. But just in theory I sometimes wonder if "outting" obnoxious souls like this on a regular, persistent basis might not maybe someday make them stop. Probably not, but it's a nice fantasy.

I really hate it when someone rants me out. You wish they'd think twice before hitting the "send" button. Drive-by-rantings should be illegal, don't ya think? But, I guess you could turn the criticism on its head... perhaps this person is paying you an underhanded compliment ... your work is worth more than you're pricing it?

OMG!!! It seems my correspondent has NO sense of humor whatsoever! Here is a quote from a email received just moments ago:

"How dare you mock me by setting your auctons [sic] at a penny? You are just foolish and doing harm to all of us with those stupid protest acutions [sic] as you are calling them. I hope you have come to your senses and realized you have made a mistake."

*shaking head* So very, very sad. But even sadder is not knowing that YOU DO NOT POKE TINK WITH A STICK.

I have revised all my current bead auctions to start at ONE CENT.

*shaking head* And now I am gonna go play on the torch. So there.

Oh good grief. Someone needs to get a life and a grip!

I wish I had ebay auctions just to start them at a penny too- what a wanker.

You go Tink.

(no if only we could convince her to start rent-a-tink at a penny) Bwhahahahahahaa

Nope, no revision. You still haven't named the artist who is poking you and I know you won't.

I'll have you know that, I didn't even care who the person was because in the big scheme of things it doesn't matter but goodness, now you can color me "curious yellow"! Hey, that would make a good name for a bead wouldn't it?
