How amazing. (S)he's always billed him/herself as having a wonderful sense of humor, andthose who don't get it as humorless jerks.

I guess this person is not only jealous, but a loser and a spoilsport as well. Think someone takes themselves _way_ too seriously, folks?

Wonder what (s)he'd say about your leaving beads for free all over Toledo? Is that damaging his/her artistic temperament in any way? BTW, the "interesting" spelling and sentence structure gives me a fairly good idea of who the author might be. What a chomoke.

I don't worry. I _only_ buy lampwork from the people here in the group, because I know them, and I know these guys will stand by their products. (Not 100% true. I bought a Patti Walton bead once for my birthday) Besides, the lampworkers here have so many beautiful styles, I can always find one that fits the way I'm feeling.

No, but if you were to ask nicely you might be able to talk Russ into doing a short run. T-shirts are much easier to do just a few of than bumper stickers. If you're serious about this, let me know and I'll pass it along.

OMG!!!!!!!!!! Thank you one and all!!!!!!

I have been sitting here laughing my A** off.

I just finished an email with VJ, talking about my DS fascination with alegators, and his great wish to go to Florida to see one 'in the wild'. She warned me that the 'Do not PET the Gators!' signs should be taken seriously!

I told her that anyone who DIDN'T know that was probably floundering in the shallow end of the gene pool and deserved whatever they got.

Then I immediately jump to this post, and I am struck with the overwhelming urge to go to WalMart, buy LOTS of BIG foamboard, and a big Black Marker. I want to Make signs that say 'Do Not Poke the Tink with a Stick!' and 'Do Not Dare the Tink!", hop a flight to Toledo and nail them up to Random lightposts in the Historic District.

***sigh*** I don't agree with price policing. Honestly. Especially on ebay/justbeads. I understand that some people feel like they should voice their opinions on how people price their items, and that's fine. But when they get nasty about it, that's *not* fine. I haven't read this whole thread yet, but here's my honest opinion. If someone doesn't like the way Tink (or I or any other lampworker, beader, artist, etc.) prices her work on ebay, well, that's too bad. eBay users set their own prices (BIN notwithstanding). One cent auctions (or 99 cents or whatever) are fine. They really are. Sometimes they are a marketing tool, sometimes they are to avoid listing fees, sometimes they are specials, etc. And really, who cares why people use them? If it works for Tink (or me or anyone else), then that's what works. Period. If Tink feels like raising her prices because the demand is high and she really could (her work is worth more, so if she wanted to, she probably could), it's up to her. It's not up to anyone else to tell her what to do. When people were talking about this on WC it really ticked me off. It's one thing to want to raise the public's awareness that what we do is art and we should be paid well for it. It's another thing to try and fix prices by coercing and flaming our peers in public and on email. The lampworker who emailed you Tink should really back off, in my opinion. He/she should concentrate on his/her own work and pricing. Now, on this group, we sometimes walk the fine line of trying to get people to raise their prices to the level of quality that their work represents. This, I feel, is not like those times. It sounds like this person got rather nasty in email, and that's just not called for.

This is someone we know? Another lampworker? That makes me a little sad. I am open to others' opinions, but not when they are shoved down your throat in a nasty way. I can see a point of view, even when I don't agree with it, but when it's given in a nasty tone, like what it sounds like this person did, it's harder to see that point of view. Tink is not wrecking the industry. There is room for all kinds of work, all ways of pricing. It's called Capitalism. Ebay is built on that. The market sets the price. For crying out loud.

I think you've nailed the meat of the matter right there. Not to mention that yelling and screaming at someone is generally *not* the way to get them to do what you want!

As far as pricing goes, I DO like to see the price reflect what the artist thinks is the minimum their beads are worth. I consider it part of educating the customer. But I do not like price policing, or having a policy that (all) bead makers should charge $X for this size and style of beads and $Y for another size and style. the customer is not paying for materials and time. The customer is paying for art and skill, and even serendipity.

You all know I am a proponent of not pricing one's work too low. I haven't made a secret of it.

But I could not agree with this statement more. It's not as if Tink were selling her stuff for a price that wouldn't reimburse her for the money or the time or the materials she puts into her beautiful beads.

What *I'm* always harping on about is another thing altogether. (Just wanted to chime in....) ~~ Sooz
