I took the weekend off. Now that might not sound like a big deal to most of you, but I *never* take the weekend off. Heck, I rarely take a single day off. Or an afternoon, for that matter!
This past weekend was the first truly decent weather of the year here in Toledo. Prairieson and I worked on the yard, shopped for new plants and I gave the pup a much needed bath.
I was surprised that even though I was having a fun, relaxing time, I was still jonesing for the torch. Weird.
So I sit down at the computer last night to try to catch up on some email, and I read that the Summer class brochure is up for the Toledo Museum. I start teaching there this summer, so I was eager to see how they wrote it all up. It's marvelous! All the info is correct, they seem excited about the offerings, they listed me as Tink and not by my "other" name, they listed my degree, my business name AND (the coolest thing) is they referred to me as a flameworking instructor and not a beadmaking instructor.
It couldn't be any better. Well, it would be very cool if the classes are fully booked too, and at the prices they are asking ($54 for my Organics class, for example) I have high hopes they will sell out. Fingers crossed.
I've been using a wireless network for the three computers in the house for a while now. The hub is in the basement, where Prairieson's and my computers reside. The laptop is on the second floor in the office. That's the one Donna uses for shipping and such. That one has been an absolute headache, as far as network reliability goes. Last Friday, Donna came to work and we were never able to get the sucker to connect, so no shipping was done.
Tonight, we ran Cat 5 cable up to the office, and I bought an inexpensive PCMCIA card so now it's always reliably connected! YAY! Even on a good day, it was taking Donna 3 to 4 times as long to do shipping as it should have, just because of the internet connection problems. It's all solved now!
Lastly, a reporter and photographer from the Toledo Blade are coming to my studio on Wednesday to do a piece on me. Apparently, they were intrigued by the public art project I did in February, so they sort of started watching my site. They called a week or so ago to see if I would be interested in having them do a story on me and my work. Hmmm.. Let me think... OK. LOL!
I always figure that if the reporters are coming to me, then my work is speaking for itself, and I use the opportunity to promote stuff that matters to me: The new Glass Pavillion, the Museum classes, the architectural glass Donna and I are beginning to work on... Stuff like that. I don't feel a need to do the whole "look at my beads" thing.
I do, however, plan to have fun with this interview: I'm wearing my lucky flaming eightball jammies, my hi-top Converse Chucks with flames on them and probably braided hair. In the article, as at the Museum, I will be simply Tink. I am really hoping the reporter hasn't done her homework and doesn't bring up the topic of teddy bears. I will keep you posted...
