Another cry for help

I'm just a basket case lately...but there's this completely fabulous necklace i HAVE to make...for myself. Anyway....if you wanna see what i'm referring to, it's the Chips and Chains (NO, not WHips, geez, how you think...sigh) collar necklace on page

148 of the Dec 2003 issue of Bead & Button. In the materials list, it has 2.2 mm chain, but would 2.39mm work just as well? I mean, it's not such a huge difference, is it? Or should I keep looking?

well...since no one is telling me not to, i'm gonna go ahead and get that chain. Fingers crossed here that it works...cuz there isn't a lot of room for error here.....

Okay, I found my issue. Wow, what a great project to pick, Jalynne.

I think the 2.39 chain should work provided you use a 22g wire? 24g might give it too much play room within the link. If you use the same length of chain stated in the pattern you'll wind up with a slightly longer necklace which probably could be compensated for at the end when attaching the lobster claw (or clasp of your choosing). Might eliminate the chips and just use the fire polish bead or crystal. Does that sound about right?

What colors are you going for?

Not terribly concerned about the length of the necklace as my neck is a bit bigger than average, so I got the bigger chain, but kept with the 24 gauge wire, because of the concern I have with the hole size on the beads. I just bought the chips a few minutes ago after struggling with that very thought....anyway...here's what i'm doing...

I don't wanna be a copycat or anything, but i'm doing exactly the warm coloured version in the mag, only going slightly warmer. I just LOVE the warmth of champagne and citrine coloured beads (I'm a November baby, so I wonder if that's why), and they glow nicely against my skin. So, that said....I found my citrine chips, using champagne coloured fire polished beads for the center row (because I really really can't afford crystal right now, and the fire polished makes it look like the piece has been around a while...not sure how to explain that). I have a strand of similar seed size pearls at my LBS put on hold for me, until I feel well enough to go out (sometime tomorrow, I hope). I did decide not to use a lobster claw clasp on this one, but haven't decided what i'm going to do instead. I want something fancier, as this will be my "for best" jewelry.

If I seem rather obsessive about this, it's because of two reasons.. 1) I'm bored out of my mind, in pain, in bed with nothing to do other than buying beads (I'd quilt, but there's nothing ready to work on yet...sigh) and 2) I am REALLY excited about finally making something just knock out gorgeous for myself. It's like I've been set loose in a candy store or something. I also figure that if I've been serious about making this necklace (and a bracelet and earrings to match, of course) since November, it's a done deal that I'll get it made. Thanks so much for all your input...it does help to know that I'm at least on the right track.

I think the hardest thing you have to do for this, is to find chips that are consistant enough in size. Be sure to show us when you're done.

That's one thing i was worried about, too. SO....i decided to buy double the amount suggested in the materials list, just in case. Heck, i can use more beads anyway, right? Heehee.
