Anyone Done the Russian Wave? (RAW question)

I was trying thd Russian wave necklace from an Oct. 2002 Bead and Button. Has anyone done this one?



I was totally confused by the directions, so I just tried it using a RAW stitch. Here's my piece:

It seemed to work ok. Has anyone done this one? Am I doing it wrong or will it work doing it with a RAW stitch?
