Anyone interested in purchasing Raku with me?

I've been thinking of getting some Raku frit in kilo sizes. Anyone else wanting some? I know several folks have some good frit connections (Cheryl) and thought we could use those.

What is it compatible with? If it's compatible with Moretti then yes!

Well it's kinda compatible. If used sparingly it is. Something like no more than 10%. I use it and many others do to. Do you remember the post about the Raku beads? Those were all used with that frit.

Yes, I remember them. I still have drool in the corners of the laptop screen from them. I presume that if it's mostly surface use it's best? We're still really learning all this and without anyone to work with in real time, I have to be an annoyance and ask everything!

We'd love some, when you do an order. I promise I'll make Mike not use too much at once!

I had drool all over my laptop too. LOL

It's not an annoyance to ask questions. How else will you learn? When it comes to reduction frits the true answer is it isn't compatible with Moretti but it is in small amounts. I know it's confusing but over time you'll get the hang of things. Heck I still ask all kinds of questions too.

Lurking and peeking! :-)

I think I understand the concept of the compatibility issues, and why they're important, sorta. I'm sure it will make more sense when I get a try at the torch.

I also think that watching people use them in less than common ways or trying something a little off, even if it doesn't work, is how all these gorgeous beads are coming into existence. I find it very exciting to watch how lampwork and glasswork in general is expanding rapidly. No pun intended... :-)

I've become more and more aware of the gulf between the US and the UK in lampwork experience and the amount of people who do it. If I had the room and a place for classes, I'd ship each and every one of you over here and hold a set of classes.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, neither Mike or I would be doing what we're doing right now which is learning and working on developing our skills, without the help, advice and knowledge this group has offered. And to think I came here 'just' to find a link for buying beads in the UK!

LOTS of things happen that way. i think that's why Oran took me on as an apprentice!

I'd love to join in. I have never used any frit before and have been looking to purchase some. Can we include Iris Gold reduction frit as well, if we can find some from the same vendor? I'd like to try it in the course version. I personally would rather work with course frit than powder frit - the bigger chunks the better. :) If that works with what you're doing, I'd be glad to join in!

That sounds good. I like the bigger frit myself. I was hoping maybe to get two different raku frit sizes. I love Iris Gold so that's no problem.

Are either of these frits compatible with Bullseye coe 90 for fusing? If so, I would be interested. Thanks, Patti

I would have to say the same thing I did about Moretti. Since they have some lead in they will anneal with BE. I'm sure you can use it because Val Cox uses BE with it all the time. You would still need to use the rule of

10% frit to your piece.

Mike prefers the larger pieces too, rather than powder. Anything you decide on will be great.

Well things seem to be going well with interest. I need to get with Cheryl and ask a few questions.

You can use it as stringer or sprinkled decoration on the surface or very generously encased. Sandwiching especially keeps it stable. Or you can just give up and score some Uroboros, which is completely compatible.

So, whaddya gonna do? Shout through the door of the shed?

Sounds like the glassworking bug has hit him hard enough that if you put in a television and a loo, you'd never have to see him again. Please go by and collect the beads now and again, so he doesn't get overwhelmed.

Food and more glass would probably be quite welcome, too. And be a dear: if you're going to move the boat, tuck a note under the door, so he doesn't worry.

He tried something that was a little off? How brave he is.

heh, heh, heh,

My love to all of you. BTW, how are the kids? Haven't had an update on Johnny and Jamie in a while.

Did (you know) make it through the hurricane intact? I'm praying his trailer is all right, because I don't want him to return to you. Only two options there: death or being totally spared. Anything in the middle significantly increases his chances of coming back. ewww. I home his Momma stays healthy a good long time, too.
