"Trading Pages" Swap Anyone?

Hi All! So, I had an idea and wanted to see if anone might be interested if I was willing to head this up... Think of the TV show "Trading Spaces," but apply it to scrapbook pages. We would send in a few photos for a single LO, and the information for journaling. Those pics and the wording would go to a different person, who would do the LO and return it, completed, to be added to your own book at home. This could give everyone a chance to scrap something you don't normally get to do (example: I'd love to scrap a child's birthday party or ballet recital or someting, but don't currently have any kids in my life that I could scrap...) Make sense? Anyway, if this is something you might be interested in, please post here or email me thedesigngirl at earthlink dot net. I was also thinking that it would work really well with digital photos; we could just email them around and then everyone would take care of output on their own, which would let you choose the sizing and cropping and things. Anyway, let me know if there is any interest for this... it's just an idea I had.

That sounds like a wonderful idea! I mean if you worry about your pictures then send copies of your pictures but otherwise it would be totally cool to see what someone else does with your pictures! Like you - I would love to do something I don't get to do normally! I have boys and I would love to do a girl's layout with pink colors and flowers! Count me in if you do it :) I do 12 x 12 layouts so that's something to consider if some people do 8 1/2 x 11 etc.

That sounds really cool but I don't think I can sign up at this time - I can't even get a circle journal out!

Hmmm, I don't do swaps generally, but this is more like a challenge. I think I like this idea. I *might* be interested in it. Please keep updated.

Just a few things:

*Can we have the option of receiving film or digital pictures? While I think digital would work great for those who use it, I really don't want to work with digital. I prefer film and don't have enough experience with programs to feel confident on someone else's layout. *I have no idea how you would even manage this, but I like the idea of scrapping something that you don't usually get to do. Could you request a general topic/gender? For example, I would love to do a really girly page for a change. I have a 3 year old boy, so I don't do girl stuff. If it's not manageable then that's not a big deal. *if you send film pics just a reminder to make sure that you have the negatives, or doubles to prevent losses in case of mail probs or flakes. *would you set a price limit/layout, or would it be whatever goes? I certainly don't have a preference, and would rather work without a budget, but it's just something to think about.
  • Number of photos to send? Do you want to be specific on a one page lo or a two page?

Wow, that is a different idea, and I would really be interested. The only problem, ya'll in here seem to like embellishments and I do not like them. I LOVE paper and want to learn more ways to use it, next omy list - tearing!!! Mariann would also be interested!

But I think the point is to receive a page that uses different techniques or has a different style than you normally would. I totally wouldn't care if I got a page that didn't have 3D embellishments. As long as it looks like the person has really put some thought and effort into it, I don't care what they use or don't use to decorate the page.

I'm not sure what you are saying here. Would you be opposed to *receiving* a page using 3D embellishments or would you feel badly about not using them? I think if you are going to participate then you should feel comfortable with the fact that you aren't going to get a page that looks like the ones you do. That's the point! :)

No problem... I would also bewilling to take on the output of digital images and sending them out to the appropriate folks... although not for everyone in the swap, but if a few would prefer it... I could just get the measurements you wanted, output them and send them to youto scrap.

That's kind of one of the motivations for doing this... I was thinking I could post what people would like to do, and folks who have pics of those events or that fit that could send those in.

I'd say whatever goes... whatever you're comfortable with...

Maybe send up to 4, but no reqirements to use them all on the LO...

I think that covers everything... please let me know if there is anything else!

This sounds really cool Lizz. I would prefer to use film as I do not have a digital camera for my pics or anything and am not experienced with the programs, etc. I would enjoy doing a "boy" page as I have two little girls I use 12x12 pages. Let us know the details, when you decide.

Dave, Been meaning to ask you...do you do the teabag folding? If not..you may want to look into it. It is fun,has some great effects and looks beautiful in layouts. HOTP has some good how to books and it is not difficult. If I can do it...anyone cn! LOL In one of our recipe swaps, Shelley Jackey from Fla did a lovely folding of suflowers that is just perfect for the Sunflower Salad recipe . I wish I could scan it in for you but cannot scan...maybe someone who was also in the salad swap last year can scan for you to see. Since you love paper, I think you would like this artform. Hugs,

Sabrina :-)

I think I missed the part of digital LOL I don't have a digital camera and it's usually easier for me to do the real photo/film thing.

I would be interested also! I takes tons of pics with my digital camera but then have some photos printed out using online services such as Clark Color. II also have tons of old photos. I usually do 12x12 layouts but could also do 81/2x11 for a swap, but for my album I use 12x12. Of course if anyone were to receive an 81/2x11 layout and need to make it a 12x12 all you would have to do is put some matching color on either side once you lay it on your page(assuming the layout comes on just paper not an actual album page), or even lay it to one side and use the other side for additional journaling. I got these ideas from watching scrapbooking on DIY. So, I guess I would have to ask, are we going to be making these layouts on cardstock or are we sending an actual scrapbook page?? Gina

I would think cardstock. Not everyone used strap hinge albums.

For those of us who use digital exclusively, we could print the pictures out or make prints like they were regular film photos. Would that work?
