OK, so I was putting together this page of sample fonts, and I had an idea... please let me know if anyone would be interested! We should put together a single font collection on CD... we all have so many fonts, and no organized way to share them. So here is my idea: if one person collects everyone's fonts, prints out a catalog and burns everything onto disk and distributes copies. I'd be willing to take that on, both collecting the fonts and putting together a catalog. Would anyone else like to participate? If so, post here or email me at thedesigngirl at earthlink dot net
This could be a very valuable resource we could all share with each other!
I don't have really any fonts to share, but I would love to be part of the font-a-holics (I am in my heart, just not in my time!). I'd be happy to send a cd and cover postage!
Not a bad idea in theory, but some of us have such large font collections that it really isn't practical... I know I, for instance, have over 10 cds of fonts alone that I have collected over time and really don't have the time (or to be honest, the inclination) to separate them into copyrighted and non-copyrighted ones. Personally I have no problem sharing the fonts with friends (regardless of copyright, ok, I know... bad girl) but I would have an issue with burning them for distribution (just a personal line I've drawn). While I can't control what others do with the fonts they collect, I wouldn't feel comfortable knowingly participating... Make sense? I much prefer to just swap fonts in, say, the way that I've done with several on this group and others, by font grouping. We just compile a list of fonts in a particular grouping (say, 2peas, LOT, KF, KR, LD, LDJ, etc) and then swap lists and compare. Then we send each other the missing fonts from the lists. (which, btw, I've gotten a few more in some of the groups since we last swapped ladies!) This works out well between individuals and I think helps me not feel so bad about possible copyright issues because I know that I'm using them for personal use only (and if I use them professionally I purchase them outright for the client). Anyway, just my response to your suggestion. Please don't take it as a flame or condemation, just as this fontaholic's response...

I'm game! (I think...) I love looking at fonts even though some I will never use....some are just cool. I have quite a few that are shareware that I could probably put out on our personal webserver here at home- nothing fancy, but a place to download them from (if you want)....
I have to say ditto Its a great idea in theory... but I too am slightly uncomfy with it. Most of mine are the fonts I have paid for... and others have helped me fill the collections, and these places (2peas ld pc etc) do such a great job with making perfect fonts for SB that I would feel a bit funky about distributing them. I don't mind sharing a few in email as I have been doing... but burning en masse doesn't seem right. Maybe i can search thru and find the freeware ones to help tho? I will do that in case anyway lol. And if any one is interested i highly recommend the nice folks at alt.binaries.fonts.. so many of the fonts thru there are wonderful
This is very interesting, but I'm not sure how it is going to work. Do you intend to have categories [cute, script, graphic, etc] and burn the chosen category on a CD that someone has sent to you? Most of the cute fonts that I have gotten, I have downloaded free, so I'm not sure that I would have any that a person doesn't already have. I especially love the baseball and football fonts. Go RAMS !!!
I am still looking for: CK Xmas Memories, Doodle Camp, Doodle Cheer, LD J Crayon, LD Gala & Double Bubble. I think they may all be Lettering Delight fonts.
When you use them, do you install them in windows/fonts or do you put them elsewhere? I have heard that all those fonts in the windows directory will start to slow your machine down. And if you don't install them there, how do you use them in programs like word?
Sharon the easiest way is this... Make a new folder in your docs folder and put all yur new fonts in there. When u want to use a new font... just open it. Then open your prog... such as word, and the new font will b in there without having to be installed. HTH
