A learner to Quilting.

I had to have a quiet giggle the other day. My sister and I chat on the webcam every Friday as we live in the opposite sides of the world. And she is a total beginer at quilting (as we all were at some time or other) she is collecting all sorts of hints and tips on whatever she can absorb. She asked me what I do with all the quilts I make so I told her that they are either stored in one of my cupboards or I give them away to friends and family. She had an idea, she said that if I make her the blocks and then send them to her she will be able to learn more by putting them together after quilting them in a quilt as you go sort of way. I thought , well OK, I can do a few blocks like a small wall hanging, thats not to expensive in the mail so I said fine I will make them. She then stated that she had a queen sized bed ! I really wasnt thinking that big ! They might end up by being 1 a month now so I can fit in some of my own work. ! Charlie

You're lucky! I wish my sister would try quilting. I know she can sew, because our mother taught us how to sew when we were little and we used to make our own clothes. But, I think my sister thinks it's too difficult or that she's not clever enough. We did have a great time going through the scrap basket of her LQS the last time I visited Alaska.... but she didn't buy anything, and I never see her sew anything. It's quite sad. I would love to convert her. I gave her a beautiful quilt book in December 2005 (for her birthday)... "just to look at, to admire".... just to maybe lead her to water....

Charlie, That sounds like a good idea to me. ROFL Would you put me on your list of people to send blocks to so they can learn how to do it right, I will even pay postage. :-) OH and my bed is just a full size.

Charlie, your sister is a VERY quick learner. Hmmmmmmmm, you buy the fabric, cut it out, sew up the blocks and then mail them to her. She ends up with a lovely queen sized quilt with a minimum of fuss and muss. LOL. Sounds like the way MY sister would start learning to quilt.

Tell her to post to rctq! We'd like to hear her side of the adventure too! She's a lucky sister. Roberta in D
