Anyone interested in purchasing Raku with me?

LOL. Well, it IS a metal shed. Banging on the door could get his attention. And everyone else's in the marina.

Oh, he's a very predictable guy. He takes a tea break every two hours or so, I can tell when he's got that Pooh Bear rumbly in his tumbly and put the kettle on just about when the SHED disgorges its captive. The glassworking bug has hit him really hard, and I'm thrilled. He made three sets today that I felt were really worth selling, they're well-shaped, have that lovely pucker and are really classy. I'm just so pleased for him, he had a visit with the specialist yesterday and was told he'd be off probably until Christmas or worse, as the specialist never seen such a bad case of plantar fascitis in his entire practice, and was entirely baffled as how to do more than has been done. He has six weeks until his next appointment and then they may ship him off to another specialist. So, he needs something to lift his spirits. This is a guy who never had a sick day in his life and this year alone he's had severe cellulitis, and this.

LOL. That was always his fear when we were first married that he'd come back to where we were moored that day and his home would be gone. It actually happened one day when I had visitors and we went out for a spin. When we got back, of course I found him in the local having his second pint and getting a bunch of stick from his friends.

I'll try to get some photos of his new beads up today, he's at the pub drowning his sorrows and I'm having a break while the sprog has a moment with Buzz Lightyear.

What were we talking about? I forget!

vj found this in rec.crafts.beads, from Kathy N-V :

]He tried something that was a little off? How brave he is. ]heh, heh, heh,

**chuckle** there is that. especially with the ADD completely out of control. but i was wanting to do things he's never considered - and now when we're brainstorming, all KINDS of nifty things happen! [see your e-mail!]

]My love to all of you. BTW, how are the kids? Haven't had an update ]on Johnny and Jamie in a while.

Jamie is READING AGAIN!!!!!! long story, but now that i'm figuring out MY ADD problem, Jamie's problems are making a lot more sense, too. She's actually doing a lot better - she has one more year at Bremerton, and then her CPO is putting her in for CIS School!!!!!!! she especially wants to work with abused children.

Johnny spent last week moving and is in training for DISTRICT MANAGER of the vision centers!!!!!

]Did (you know) make it through the hurricane intact? I'm praying his ]trailer is all right, because I don't want him to return to you. ]Only two options there: death or being totally spared. Anything in ]the middle significantly increases his chances of coming back. ewww. ] I home his Momma stays healthy a good long time, too.

actually, they don't live in a mobile - i do. his mother's house is 'the old family home' but it's hard pine, covered with plywood, covered with brick. which doesn't make it invulnerable, but very sturdy. he said that other than a lot of limbs from the orchard on the ground, they came through pretty unscathed. now, if i could just get him to answer his e-mail . . . . . .

I would also be interested! I love the raku, its a ton o' fun! The bigger size is nifty, but the #00 in my experience was touchy to work with. Hard to get the colors to pop out with it.

LOL - cute! I want to pull some iris gold reduction stringer to make metallic golden bumps and scrolls on some of my beads for the holidays and New Year's. And I love the color shift of the raku frit on a lot of the beads I am seeing. It's so colorful and pretty! I need to get a couple of clear boro rods for punties, though. Starlia, or anyone, know where to get just a couple of these?

I pull my reduction frit stringer with needle nose pliers and a 1/8" mandrel. I suppose you could do it with 2 mandrels. I just heat the end red hot, dip into the frit, or on to a warm chunk and it sticks like magic. Heat and dip until you get enough on the end. Pull with pliers or attach another red hot mandrel as a punty.

Try it.

Oh, okay - that sounds easy. You don't have any dirt or rust marks in the stringer from the mandrel? I pull most thin stringer with pliers, so that's no problem. When done, do you just dip the mandrel in water to get the left over glass off? Thanks for the tip!

I do the same thing only I use a 3/32 mandrel. LOL

That's sweet! Thank you! :) If I can get it done Lori's way, there will be no need for the boro. Let's hope! Because I am secretly afraid of boro. LOL

No I don't have any problems with rust or stuff. That stays with the glass on the mandrel. I have less waste than with pyrex punties.

I've been thinking of getting some Raku frit in kilo sizes. Anyone else

I asked this question before, but it hasn't shown up yet on aol. Please excuse if this question was answered - aol is slower than usual tonight. Is the Raku frit only compatible with Moretti and not with Bullseye coe 90 for fusing? Or does the same less than 10% ratio apply? If it is compatible I'd like some of the finest powder if you are ordering some of that kind. Patti

Nope. What do you do to get rust or dirt on your mandrels? Maybe because it's so dry here in AZ that everything just evaporates so fast it doesn't have time to produce rust. The only time I've seen that is when I left my toilet bowl cleaner open near my tools. Ugh. For those of you that want to know...the TB cleaner is used to clean certain colors of glass that get a weird metallic look to them....I don't just have it sitting around for the heck of it. :o)

There's always a little bit if glass left on the end of the mandrel after pulling and I just dunk it when I'm done and it all shatters off.

Why are you afraid of boro?

I could use a new frit connection, period. I'm utterly disgusted with Olympic right now. And I won't order from CRLoo for any reason.

This morning, I had to bid on some beads a lampworker made out of some Uroboros which... yes... she bought from me. They were TOOO gorgeous. I'm not telling you which lampworker until I win the auction, I don't want anyone bidding against me. :)

I'd love to join in. I have a half-kilo on order, but it'd be a miracle if I ever get it. I guess FedEx has it out for me all of a sudden.
