Bead and Jewelry Pricer software

Hi, I am ready to try to organize my beading work, this entails keeping up with inventory, pricing and consignment pieces. The problem is, most programs are somewhat expensive, so I don't want to make a mistake with a program that does not meet my needs. In the November issue of Bead Style magazine there is a software product called Bead and Jewelry Pricer. Looks like what I need. I would appreciate any opinions, or comments on this or other software that could help.

I have Jewelry Designer Manager, and really haven't had time to use it much. However, there is a Yahoo! group dedicated to it if you want to ask questions:

Re: JDM What limitations are causing problems now? I've "worked around" a few of them.... I upgraded to Pro, and it has a few differences I wish they had left the same as they are in the "regular" edition. (Like, the "parts" data base sorts itself alphabetically by "name", rather than numerical order... and then when you "copy" you have to go looking for the duplicate. In the regular version, the copy was the next item up.)

According to somebody on another list, there are upgrade plans for linking the Pro version to Quicken for more extensive bookkeeping ability, and for the ability to sell "parts" without transfering them to the finished jewelry section.

Have you checked out the Yahoo group set up for JDM users? It was set up by purchasers, not the seller, but Barbara (who made the program) said she'd try to check in every once in awhile. Kaytee "Simplexities" on

metal costs fluctuating, for one thing. but, while it does track some things, it's so much hassle. and it's not really 'changeable'. i'm still debating whether to keep fighting it or not.

since part of what i'm going to be making ARE parts, that would be nice.

no - i gave up on yahoo groups. i've got only so many hours/day and there was too much extraneous chatter on them. i'm really having to ration my time lately!

The Pro version has an option to use any of 3 prices on an item-- the original cost when you first purchased it, the new cost when you add to inventory, or an average. So far I haven't used this feature-- only have one entry for each item (actually have the same product listed more than once in some cases, because I had more than one packet/tube/whatever in different storage areas when doing inventory-- which still isn't compleated).

So far, I have 4522 "parts" and 251 "pieces" (finished jewelry) inventoried. All my 2004 pieces are in "properly", pieces from previous years first were put in as "parts"... still have earrings and "kids' jewelry" to enter that way.

okay - so far i haven't found it.

but what i want is a way to put in the price of silver or gold ONCE and have it adjust the price on multiple items - not try to find every single thing i've bought that way and change prices manually!

I know what you mean, but I don't think that's what you want. If the price of silver goes up, you wouldn't want it to change the price of things you bought at a lower price, would you? Or maybe you want it to calculate the sell prices at the higher price, but not the inventory ( cost of goods sold) prices.

I've never seen this software, but maybe if you just try to change sell prices, you can do that in multiples.

that's partly what happened to jewelry during the 80s when the gold market soared and then the bottom dropped out.

it's an ongoing problem. especially since part of the price of the things i'm making is determined by weight - - - if you see what i mean.

Look on the upper right of the page-- under the buttons that say "add new part", "parts quicklist", "jewelry assmbly" and "close".

and have it adjust the price on multiple items -
