All,
Well, our school project of a children's jewelry making workshop is going through with a bang. We are going to be part of a Family Night hosted by our school health center, open to the general public. The event doesn't have much funding; generally people donate their time and supplies for activities. They do not know how many kids will show up but last month was the biggest ever, with 240 kids attending. Some were babies, but over 100 were interested in arts projects.
So... here is my dilemma. I was planning to buy the materials for the project myself, back when I thought we were going to be getting materials for 10 or 12 kids. Now we are running two projects. One is for 8-12 year olds using memory wire and size 8 beads and glass and pewter charms (I have plenty of materials for the 10-15 kids that usually show up in that age group. The second project is for 3-7 year olds. The majority of kids who show up are under 6 years old.
Therefore, we have agreed to bring enough materials for up to 200 kids. I am planning to use plastic pony beads and other big plastic beads with "craft string" (which is thick and stiff enough to meet the suggestions of people here, I think).
I was wondering if any of you have any materials laying around that you might be willing to donate? Or suggestions about where I could elicit donations?
Thanks!!!
