Wow, what a cool project! Of course, because copying other people's projects, even published ones, is something I can't do, I pulled out some seed beads to play around with this design.
What design, Kath? Why the one in this month's Beadwork Mag this month. The artist, Eileen Arnstein, made large elliptical links from 3 mm crystals in RAW. The links are attached to one another as they're made, and the result is a chunky, incredibly beautiful chain that looks like a very heavy, braided gold.
It's going to take a while, since seed beads are much smaller than 3 mm crystals, but this is going to be soooo pretty when it's done.

P.S.: Did anyone else find the work by Joyce Scott to be disturbing? The one with the black woman, white man and brown child really creeped me out. Boy, that woman is pouring a lot of pain into each piece.
