Roxan -- so was Angels and Demons based on facts. I was online this morning looking up Bernini's sculptures, reminding me that Art History classes were my favorite classes in college. I wanted to study that but couldn't figure out what to do with the degree if I got it!

]The Da Vinci Code is a great book since is based on true facts about Jesus ]and Mary Magellan.

"true facts" about Jesus are highly debatable.

several people in another group spent a LOT of time discussing this when we had ARCs of it to read.

he seems to have "played" with a lot of history and geography.

How do you know that? Just playing Devil's advocate...but how do you know what are true facts about Jesus and Mary Magdalen?

I think she meant one she hasn't already read.

I suspect the original poster meant "Biblical facts".

Besides, "facts" are true by definition. There's no such thing as a false fact.

I've seen the movie and am currently reading the book. The professor's son in the movie seems to be loosely based on one of the grad students - the one who was his protege of sorts.

The movie was quite good. Yes, there are differences but don't let that stop you.

BTW - for those of you who've read Angels and Demons and/or The DaVinci Code, you need to read Digital Fortress. :-) I read that one, have Angels and will get DaVinci after that.

That would be the Shadow of the Lion and I'm halfway through it. Fun book, interesting historic twists and pretty good if sometimes tricky to follow. My thumbs hurt from reading it on the plane. (not that it stopped me LOL)

Very good book!!! it's a *tad* hard to follow, with all of the "story lines"...but I love how they wrap up.

Definite keeper!

I think the sequel just came out in hardback, too.

Freaky interlude. I've managed to go to Borders three times in the last 10 days.....got lots of stuff, about 3 bags full (baaaaaa baaaa baaaa).....ONE paperback and ONE magazine for me. A new record in self-denial! (And oh how it hurts!)

I just finished The Onion Girl by Charles De Lint. It was wonderful, but also part of a whole bunch of books he's written about the same place/group...so now I will be ferreting out the others! Luckily they do stand alone for those like me who read series out of order. You might like it Tink, or you really might not; it has to do with subject matter like Andrew Vacchs's books having to do with Children of the Secret, but it is very positive and affirming---not preachy at all, its great fiction and a compelling read. Not necessarily big/fat, but I make everyone read the "His Dark Materials" series by Philip Pullman. The three books are sometimes found in the "young adults" section, sometimes in "science fiction/fantasy". According to the author they are philosophy set in a fantasy setting. He makes it sound like the setting is unimportant, which is kind of funny because I (as well as just about everyone who I know who has read them) find it to be the most unique and rich fantasy universe I have ever read... the philosophy is pretty mind-blowing too, especially the second and third books.

You can buy several versions of the boxed set (Harry Potter and LoTR seem to have had a good effect on the publishing of other fantasy series over the last couple of years :) ), or the three books by name are:

  1. Northern Lights (UK) = The Golden Compass (US)
  2. The Subtle Knife
  3. The Amber Spyglass

(I find it amusing that we in the US are deemed incompetent to understand the title "Northern Lights").
