Challenge

Okay folks. I've read all about the muse running away. I have thought of a fun challenge if anyone is interested.

Lets do a bead swap with a Caribbean Paradise theme. I could collect the beads (you need to make enough for the entire group) and then I could mail them all back to you, one from each person. The beads need to be at least

12mm. I would need a return self addressed stamped envelope in the package so everyone could get their goodies back. I would like to keep this to less than 20 folks involved. If this works, maybe we could keep it going and rotating the sponsorship.

We are doing something along those lines for our local bead group. I thought it would be fun and I love the Caribbean colors.

What do you ladies think? If you are interested, please email me at snipped-for-privacy@cox-internet.com. Please remove NOSPAM before emailing me.

well, i can't figure out if they are "official" or not, but i have these saved:

If so, I'd like to offer up a "Fall Challenge" or a "Spring Challenge" for our Aussie beaders. How about the goal is to express the season in your preferred material, and when uploading the picture, say why your piece represents the changing season to you.

Whatever we want. Since we all have different skills, the choice is entirely up to the artist. I'd like to suggest trying something different. For me, that's going to be wirework. My wire skills are terrible, and this would be a great chance for me to expand my horizons.

AND:

I have personally tried this one, and it's harder than it sounds....

Have someone else create something from your beads. Someone who doesn't normally do craftly things. (don't try to sneak off and have another beader do it. LOL)

The only things you can help with are:

finishing the piece (doing the crimping, etc.)

Anything that would be unsafe for a child to do: baking clay, cutting string, you get the idea.

You can only make suggestions if the person is trying to use your best bead or the like. You can tell them what can and can't be used, but you *cannot* suggest color combos, bead combos, etc.

Lampworkers: since it's impossible to let someone inexperienced make a bead, you can either do some instructing (not making, but keeping it safe) or have someone use one of your beads in a piece. (somebody other than a crafty bead person)

You can instruct a person on stitches, but you can't actually stitch.

Get the idea?

The challenge lies in letting go of your beads for one time and letting another take over your stash. Husbands, mothers, sisters, brothers, kids. whoever.

I had my b/f do this. The only thing I told him was which beads I preferred he *didn't use (limited supply) and what to string them on. Let me tell you, I kept wanting to go in there and do it myself!

It came out interesting to say the least. It was kind of ugly, (he chose to use cheap beads. Didn't dig too far into my stash) and I took it apart, but he did come up with a color combo I didn't think of that went really well together.

Whaddya think?

If it's a go, way cool. If it's a dud, I'll think of something else. (I have more ideas, I just have to remember them. LOL)

I understood, Shirley -- and I agree. Let's finish this challenge, and award the prize before we move on. IIRC, we had a prize of $50 for one winner, picked at random. Since I ponyed up the prize money, and no one else is volunteering -- how about I have a disinterested third party pick a name from a hat, and we can finish this up? (We can't get anyone more disinterested than my husband, believe me)

I've started designing mine....just need to get rid of all these stinking house guests before i can work on anything. A friend of ours was here for two weeks, left today. Tomorrow DH's cousins will be here for the afternoon/evening, then on Saturday, one of DH's former co-workers will be here for the day. Calgon, take me away...far far away, to my happy place! I think that's why this challenge appealed to me.

Then I will write down all the names in the morning and have DD or DH pick one from a hat. (or a bowl, more likely) Stay tuned -- I'll announce the results as soon as I know them.

Hey, it is -your- happy place. Doesn't matter if it fits someone else's idea.

And have your stinky guests left yet? It is hard to recover when people are getting on your nerves.

oh, it was me with the houseguests. Yes, one left, but there are more due to arrive any second now. Dh's cousins are here for the afternoon/evening. Then he has a friend coming Saturday. I seriously need that revolving door soon. Next week, I will get a chance to be all by myself, dh promised. In the meantime, i'm dreaming up beads for my happy place. With all the discussion of food beads i started, i'm thinking a nice cheesecake or an ice cream cone bead would be in order, you know, comfort food type things.....

Yeah, I realized too late that I had mixed up who was getting fed up with too many guests.

I want to see an ice-cream cone bead...
