I acquired this necklace a few years back while cleaning out an estate for a friend. I do not know what these beads are made of. I know they are very heavy and are some sort of natural stone.
Would someone like to take a stab at identification?

Could be moonstone. Why don't you take it in to a real jewelry store (not a chain store in a mall); I would think the jeweler would identify it as a courtesy as long it didn't require tests.

Could be either mother of pearl or a spectralite/moonstone variety. It appears to have some chayoancy.

I've never seen mother or pearl that thick, and it usually has layers.

It's definitely not mother of pearl. It could be moonstone. Or maybe agate. It's VERY heavy and feels like polished stone. It has natural striations, and you can tell each bead is hand cut, because no two are exactly alike, and the rounds aren't perfectly round.
I'll be taking it to a jewelry store in a real town soon. I'll let you know what I find out.
