herringbone variation?

Has anyone visited the B&B show website and looked at all the classes they will be offering this year? Wow. I wish I could go !!!!!!!! but it won't come about this year. I'm just sick that they moved the show away from Portland, OR where, for me, it was only a 40 minute drive to the show.

Anyway, I fell in love with the texture of the body of an amulet bag that is offered as a class. I added the link so you can see what I am talking about.

It's a herringbone stitch, done with 3 beads rather than the normal even number. I can do that. But I have experimented all weekend with ways to create that reccessed area between the 3-bead groups and cannot figure out how to do it. I tried adding a bead between each 3-bead herringbone group but whether I use a size 11 delica or a size 15 bead, they come "forward" and are very visible rather than receding. I can't really think of what else to try.

Does anyone know how this texture is created or have suggestions for me to try? Does anyone know the person who is teaching the class? I looked up her name on Google but found nothing.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks Jennifer
